| So I am back into ar ownersip after a 6 mo. Absence. I just acquired a stag 7 hunter 6.8 spc. My goal is a dual purpose gun with 2 uppers. I have my spr well on its way but I am one for simplicity and I want my sbr to run on the same lower. Apart from the obvious legal requirements is there anything that would keep this from working? I like the idea of one gun with a 30 second swap between close/mid range and mid/long range. Anything like hammer type, buffer tube (7.5 or 10.5" barrel) or anything else that would keep a sbr 5.56 upper from working as a drop in? My local nfa dealer said it would be no prob legally to register my existing stag lower as sbr for use with a 5.56 sbr upper...true? Thanks all |

If you want a great performing round through the SBR, stick with 6point8....
Registering your lower on a Form 1 is easy. Fill out the PDF here. Duplicates, Front and Back. A copy of the Certificate of Compliance Revocable Living Trust, or CLEO signature, photos, and fingerprint cards. Check to Department of the Justice for $200 (or BATFE) A 10.5" weapon will give you an OAL of about 27" depending on the muzzle device and chosen stock. You'll write in on the Form 1 29.5" for a 10.5" weapon. A 7.5" 5.56 will run, but ballistically it's very inefficient and loud. Something like the LWRC PSD in 6.8 is ideal since you have additional bore to push a bullet downrange. 6.8s run very well through SBRs. Good luck and HTH. |
| Thanks for the advice. I'm going to 5.56 for the sbr so I can shoot more. Or I might do 9mm.... I was reading about needing a certain type of hammer for a 9mm upper to function properly... Can anyone shed light on whether a stag 7 trigger will work with a 9 mm upper? |
