Yeah, i figured. I'm the same way. I have 9 personal longguns, ranging from .22 to 12 guage, and the only thing ghettoed out is my Marlin Mod. 60 with a dragunov polymer stock and a cheap $40 scope. Coincidentally, that Marlin is the only rifle I have with glass on top. Personally, I think they're just trying to rope in a few of the AR15 gear whores, but what do I know. WIZZO |
Why does one need a rail all the way to the front sight? Why does one need long rails on the left and right side and bottom? . My project, almost complete, consists of a Scout Squad, chopped USGI synthetic stock, less than 4" rail segment on the forward underside of the stock (ARMS qd bipod mount, or WFM tactical light mount), swivels moved to the side and wrist, ARMS 18 mount in place of that aluminum dinky forward scout mount. Replaced the long brake with a Smith. All that crap hanging off adds alot of weight and makes the weapon unwieldy IMHO. If anyone (other than USGI) actually USES a rifle, any rifle, with all that crap hanging off it at once (bipods, lasers, taclights, optics) I'd like to hear why and for what purpose other than to be gearfagged out. Hump something like that all about through the brush and try to shoot hogs with it.

Compromise, a one rifle does all sort of thing. I'd love to have one myself, uber tactical mall ninja stuff there. |
+1 Quick question on the Arms18. I keep hearing people talk about it in conjunction with the aluminum scout mount. Does it replace it? Or is it simply a different option and mounts elsewhere? I looked at a picture of the mount itself and for some reason got the idea it mounts over the rear sights? |
The SOCOM isn't much longer than your arm. Nice to have flexibilty.....just in case. |
You remove the aluminum scout mount, get a regular handguard (the Fulton one is cool for $14) and through the scout mount in your parts box. It is of little use if you want flexibility in optics, seems quite rinkydink and it is reported that it conducts heat from the barrel to your optics. Also, being directly attached to the barrel I wonder if it effects harmonics. Anyway, it sucks for my purpsoes and was the first thing to go.
