I have had a Springfield M1 Garand for about 6 - 8 years now (purchased new) and have had many issues (feeding, jamming, etc.).  On many occasions I tried contacting them about it and could never get any response.  Also, there is literally zero mention of the M1 on their website.  Anyone else had experience with this?  Am I missing something?

New production? Or new to you?

I don't think Springfield has made a Garand since '56 or so.
It may be new to you, but I don't think it's new.
Auto Ordnance was making some recently.
Take a pic of your receiver and post it with the last few numbers covered, and someone here can tell you the year.
About the feeding and jamming, it may just need a disassemble and cleaning .
If you don't know a lot about this weapon, it may be difficult for you.

I thought the new Springfield started production back up for a few years.

Either way it probably needs a good cleaning and greasing(not oil).

Need more info on what's jamming, what ammo are you using.

If your unsure how to disassemble clean it, I can forward you some really good links.

Garands pretty much need the 150 gr M2 ball milsurp loads to function reliably, unless you play around with them and/or develop a load for your particular gun.

That said, as a recent new owner of a CMP WWII Springfield M1, I'm mainly tagging this thread for info.

Yes, no commercial ammo unless you modify the gas system.

I load my rounds for mine, increased accuracy over surplus, and reduced recoil.

Was it 30-06 or 308? I got a new 30-06 about the same time and its worked great. If its been so long try and call them again. I usually get through but sometimes there a 5-10min wait.

If you want to keep it you can always try someplace like Here to do some trouble shooting for you.

I had exactly the same experiences with you
regarding their M1A and M1 Garands.

I ditched the M1A for an LRB Arms M14SA,
and the Garand was sent to a Garandsmith
that replaced 80% of the internals as installed
by Springfield.

After spending $200ish on out of pocket "repairs",
It now runs like a champ.

Buy a surplus Garand, and dump the SA.

If the S/N starts with a 7--it's new production new Springfield Armory. I have one in .308--works like a charm!!!!

I had a SA inc 308 gun years ago and that gun was a disaster!  Feeding issues and accuracy was dismal at best. ETC ETC ETC

Poor quality build. A correct GI 7.62x51 will outshoot a 30/06. There is a reason they were disallowed from competition.

Definitely Springfield and was new in box from factory when I bought it.  I am pretty adept at disassembly and cleaning so I don't think that was the issue.  I did, however, use commercial ammo at times.
Based on other posts it sounds like this a known issue with this rifle.  And thanks for the support Springfield.
Thanks all,

Is your M1 a 7 million S/N? Can't tell tell with that small picture.  If it is its a Springfield Armory Inc not the United States Springfield Armory. This is confusing to some people...

If it 6 million and below then it's a USGI Rifle and Springfield Armory Inc will not do any warranty repair. They will work on them but will charge you.

There is a big differance between Springfield Armory Inc and Springfield Armory. Ones cast the other is forged. One saw service in the military the other is a copy

While I would rather have the real deal Garand over a commercial Garand SAI does have great customer support. I havent ever heard of them not standing behind one of their products
Have you tried calling them or just e-mail??
Pick up the phone and call them. Explain your issues and I'm sure they will take care of you

I know, was having a hard time getting a good pic.  It is a 7 million series.

Clips that are out of spec will cause feeding issues. They are usually too tight from being stepped on or sat on vs too wide. I have seen dozens of clips that were too tight that caused feeding jams.

the greek clips and ammo have a different extraction groove (308 vs. 30-06), and don't always work.

buy aei, or gi surplus enblocs, use either the new federal 150gr ball or the hornady amax m1 loads.

No such thing as Greek enblocs. The German JMO and SF enblocs that come on "some" HXP are the ones some people report having problems with. The other enblocs that come with HXP are USGI manufacture and will work with either ejection groove
