Hi, I was just wondering if it is better to get the clamp on or the permanent mount for a K-31 and is there any advantages of one over the other? And how long do you think the 7.5 swiss ammo will be available?

Thanks

The last I heard the importers were getting more in and the price is going up. There is also the Prvi Partizan 7.5 around.

I use the clamp-on mount because I do not want to make any permanent changes to my K31s and I can move it from one to any of my other six.

Yeah, what he said.
and if you go with the Mount, try and get the rings that brownells or some other places have that are an extra add on, these don't take normal mounts like you may be used to, more akin to a .22 ring mount...

Yep, I forgot about that. I believe they are 11mm rings. If I am wrong I am sure someone will come along and correct me. I remember reading about someone using .22 size rings and having problems with the rings sliding.

I am using the clamp on mount. I used the Millett 1 inch .22 caliber rings and it is working great. The part number on the package was TP00002 for the medium. That one mounted my Burris Fullfield perfectly.

If you're right handed get the clamp on mount. It's solid.

If you're left handed the drill and tap would work well for you.

Each one is offset aprroximately 3/4" to the side. The clamp on to the right, the D&T to the left (it mounts on the left side of the receiver).

What he said. No real reason to permantely alter the reciever for a mount. The clamp-on mount is very solid. Only problem I've ever heard of is the rings walking up the mount during recoil. The newer mounts have a stop screw in them to prevent this. The mounting rail is called a 3/8's dovetail. I've had good luck with the Millett Angle-locs on mine.
