I've spent the better part of the day reading through all the Class 3 and SBR threads. My heads spinning, but I got most of my answers. I've thought SBR-ing my current S&W 15T and just getting a new upper. Seems like much simpler way to go. Then again, I'm wondering if I should just get a new high quality lower to begin the project. I'm looking at Spikes as they seem to have a good reputation and I can pretty much get the lower the way I want. I've been looking at this one: http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/biohazard-lower-w-standard-kit-fde-ctr-stock-moe-grip-p-513.html Not sure if billet matters or not as this also comes in their standard lower with the spider rollmark (which I'm not crazy about which is why I linked to their "bio-hazard model) and not sure what the difference is between their "normal" and "enhanced" lowers are. But either way it's pretty much the configuration I'd go with if I built it myself. I'm not opposed to going more "namebrand" just because. I'm thnking Noveske or LMT lower would be a great lower to start with. Feel free to chime. I'm eventually going to run suppressed but will probably just cap the barrel with a Noveske KX3 that I already have for now until I get my can. Here's where it gets complicated for me because there are so many options. Because I don't have a ton of experience with shooting an SBR, I'm sort of going by looks, my limited experience, and what I think I'd eventually like my rifle to look like. This is namely going to be used as a defense rifle and range weapon. My current rifle and the one I want to build are both going to be 'go-to" weapons so quality really matters more than saving a few bucks. I know it's been discussed in other threads, but I'm looking for the rail to shroud the KX3 and eventually the suppressor a bit. I want for no other reason than because I think it looks good and there's no performance/safety reason not to, so I figured why not? So I guess my question ends up being, are there rails that have a large enough diameter so that the suppressor can slide inside? I'm thinking a reflex style can, but not married to the idea. So if I went 10.5 with a 10" rail, would the can be able to slide into the rail? I've read where some people say you wouldn't be able to tighten the brake or the suppressor if it's recesses a bit in the rail, but others have said otherwise and I know there are... like the Troy rail that's on my S&W... that it comes apart in two halves, so tightening wouldn't, or least shouldn't be an issue. Either way, I'm hoping to get difintive answers and component recommendations to acheive that particular look on a 10.5" or even a 12.5" upper and kind of have a defacto thread on the topic since a lot people seems like the appearance of that kind of setup. So any advice and recommendations are welcome along with pics and details. Thanks a lot guys. |
