I've come into a Stevens 106 but it's in need of some repair. It looks like the hammer was either broken out or removed some time ago.

The most experience I have with shotguns is tearing my mossberg down from time to time for cleaning. I've built several ARs but I'm not sure how much that experience will count for.

I've googled the heck out of this but I can't find a manual or tear-down guide for this gun. I can find hammers for either model, but I'd like to get the whole thing apart and check it over.

Does anyone have a manual or insight that could help?

http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm                  This site has 100's of free downloadable gun manuals. It may have the info you need. I didn't see the Stevens 106 listed by name, but look at the savage shotgun manuals also.

Nice find Toby! Unfortunately the closest model they have is the Stevens 612 side by side shotgun and it just shows how to take off the barrel and install choke, basic stuff. :(
