I got sick of trying to locate 13-1LH devices, so the AUG bbl went down to ADCO for a re-thread to 1/2x28RH.  I had them take a little off the top as well as do a slight contour to lighten it.  Turnaround was less than one week, even with Christmas.  It was 16.5", now it's 16 & a smidge.  I didn't get a good weight on it prior to packing it up, but I think it lost around 6oz.  The contour will give the bbl a little more room inside the receiver too, so it will hopefully cool better.  As it was, it was almost touching all the way around and was using the receiver as a heat sink.

I don't have the tools here to properly index the BattleComp, but I should have some time over the next few days to get it wrenched on and put some rounds through it.  I have a BC1.0 on my AR, and it takes the recoil down to about what a paintball gun feels like.  I can't wait to feel this on the AUG.

Nice,  I was just thinking about something like this today.  May I ask the cost?

$65 for the muzzle work, $65 for the re-contour + re-park.

16" (18.375" with flash hider) Length of AUG barrel.
Your barrel looks nice . I have thought about having one cut down 2" and having the flash hider welded and pinned.

You might run into some gas port issues at that point.  I seem to remember someone having to open up the port when taking it down to 14", and even then it wasn't 100%.

Going shorter than 16" leaves the AUG in a touchy zone- some guns will run, some will not.  The issue is the distance from the gas port and muzzle is so short it is right on the edge of the envelope for adequate dwell time.  It is the same issue you see with 10.25" AR's, you typically need at least 2" from gas port to muzzle.

It is just an idea I have been kicking around. I saw an NFA AUG that Pete did with a 14" barrel and it did look good. You both made good points that I had not thought about.
Op sorry for the thread jack.

I take it they removed the gas block, did the work, and reinstalled it? Is this difficult or prone to problems?

Thanks, Chris

No need to remove the gas block to turn the barrel.

I'm of the opinion that this is more myth than reality.  The issue with dwell time exists with DI AR's, since the gas needs to travel a long distance to do it's job.

This is why you see short-stroke piston-op AR's with gas blocks very close to the muzzle - it's a matter of tuning the gas system appropriately.  There's plenty of barrel there to put a muzzle device right up to the gas block, look at Dave Robertson's personal gun.

With a standard 1.5-2" muzzle device, making a 14-14.5" pinned and welded AUG barrel should be a matter of finding just the right size for the gas port.

Once again... it's a matter of tuning.

First one to figure it out gets my cash... I *really* want a 14.5" barrel for my AXR with a Troy Claymore pinned on.

Dont worry about the barrel gas port, have a custom gas reg made with more holes for fine tuning the cycling of the action. Now wheres that cash ?

Unlike other Aug gas ports (the 14" barrel) has an angular port.
Cutting a 20 inch barrel is a gun smithing nightmare and not recommended

I think you do need to worry about the barrel gas port, since an over-large port on the regulator doesn't help you if it's larger than the one in the barrel.

Also, I'll give you my cash when you have a product available.

That is sweet you were able to get your A3 barrel re-threaded to use standard mounts.

Got the BC1.0 mounted.  Had to use peel washers because the crush washer wouldn't crush enough to get it all the way around.  The muzzle blast is significant, but the recoil is almost nothing now.  Real fast double-taps!

Very nice, love the look of the A3 with the BattleComp.

I'm thinking about adding one to my RFB, but dang $219......

I, too, have been contemplating a BattleComp on my STG556. Recoil isn't much with more than 10lbs empty weight, but with recoil, less is more!

Why wouldn't you put the Aimpoint all the way forward on the rail?

The closer an RDS is to your eye, the bigger the FOV.

The closer an RDS is to your eye, the bigger the FOV.
With the Micro Aimpoints this is especially important because of the smaller diameter.
