I had a strange occurance the other day but it was quickly fixable.  While taking in some practice with my E4 for an upcoming 3-gun match on saturday I started to get light primer strikes on three different types of ammo.  I knew my E4 liked thest types of ammo because I have run literally thousands of rounds without incident.  I thought I might have firing pin problems so I field stripped it only to find the firing pin in great shape.  As I was re-assembling it I noticed the end of the op-rod (side that contacts the piston) backed out a few turns.  It was just enough to let a fresh round chamber but not enough to go into full battery.  The rod was a hair longer because the end backed out some and was just enough to change the head spacing.

SIMPLE FIX...................I put a couple drops of blue loc-tite on the threads and tightened the end of the rod down.  It runs like a top now with all ammo including crappy Wolf and lacquered steel cased Hornidy.

We put them together with red loctite.

jag:  when I backed the op-rod tip out enough to clean the threads so I could re-loctite it, it had that red tint of the stronger loctite but thought differently because it shouldn't have backed out.  Hopefully the blue loctite will hold.  If not I have some red that I will use on it.

Thanks jag for the info,
