| So totally digging up old news. But in my recent searching for new folders, I like to research the makers/mfrs. I find some pretty sketchy stuff on Strider claiming to be "black ops", getting sued, etc. Why are his knives so popular when his character is allegedly so terrible? Or is it just who cares about the man, the product is good thinking? I'm pretty ignorant other than internet readings, School me |
| Most people tend not to give a shit about internet drama associated with a company, even when it is well known. The stuff about Strider isn't too widely publicized, and the company's reputation is built on the quality of their knives and not a bunch of shit about the owners. |

I have a SnG that rides with me every day. It is a great knife. I've read it all too, and while the guy definately said some things he shouldn't have, he runs a great business for his customers. I also do not believe that any of us are above making a mistake.
I will buy another one day. |

Look at the bad rep Todd Bailey (Toad) has and what it has done to his company. ETA: On second thought his issues are more about his personality (which is a Strider issue) and a crap product (which Strider isnt) so I guess it could go either way. |

Most people don't know he faked his claimed service, and that he held a car dealer at gunpoint so he could chase after his ex wife who was afraid of him.
I don't know his personality, but I try to avoid people who fake military service, fake being black ops, who use firearms in robbery, and who steal cars to try and do god knows what to their ex women. I can't even fathom what he was planning to do when the cops finally caught him. Fuck military fakes, and fuck thieves. Just my opinion. |

You really have to hold one to appreciate it. It is a real weapon you can't tell until you wrap your fingers around one. I don't own one to expensive for my budget. Also when you are making very good stuff you get attacked look at larue and magpul they get criticized regularly.... and are good companies I know nothing about strider's owner just the products which are nice but over priced IMO. |

I think 2003 was before everything was exposed. While I won't argue the quality of the knives, there's not a single ranger(scroll) I know that would use his knives even if it was free. Again not trying to stir up any hot drama, I'll save that for the gd boys. Thanks for the responses/opinions everyone. |
| The fact that he lied about his past to sell knives really turned me off to his blades, then I held one at a gun show and was not impressed with it all, the edge if you even call it that sucked IMHO I'm not a pro at sharpening but I could do way better than what I saw. For that kind of coin I think you can do way better, ie Randall, Chris reave, busse, Spartan & and our in house custom man Jericho. Just my .02 and its worth what you paid |

Just my .02 and its worth what you paid Holding one for 10 seconds at a knife show does not demonstrate any first hand knowledge of a blades quality... Never seen a Randall or Busse folder, although I do own several Busse's and one old school Randall, I own a Reeve Sebenza, which is a work of art, but the blade leaves a lot to be desired in terms of edge holding ability and strength, and I have never heard of Spartan so I cant comment on that. But as far as folders go, Strider is hard to beat in terms of quality, strength and edge holding ability. I own two Strider folders, an SMF and an SMG. Both are top quality, built like a tank and both have seen a lot of abuse with neither the worse for wear. The man behind the name may be a toolbag and a complete douche for pretending to be something hes not, but you can't say his knives are not quality made. With the way most of these corporate CEO's and corporate presidents go, if we boycotted every brand that had a douche at the top, none of us would have many guns or knives. Strider Knives are top quality, Strider himself may not be, but his knives definetly are. |

Just out of curiosity can you name another CEO/owner in this industry that lied about being a hero and is a convicted felon? I would like to avoid buying their products as well. |

I traded into an SNG awhile back. It's an excellent knife, the ergonomics of it is perfect as far as I'm concerned. But it's way overpriced. I got rid of it and went back to my Spyderco ParaMilitary2.
They compare really closely honestly. except you can get para's for $105 pretty easily. The compression lock is theoretically a stronger lock, I say theoretically because I've never seen any real tests done, but my experiences tell me it's a lot harder to bend a .5" piece of steel than it is to bend a 2.5" piece of titanium. Sure it's robust, but I can break 3 spydies before I've spent as much as one Strider costs....Coincidentally, I've yet to break one para so far. 3 years later and $250 more in my pocket, I'm happy with my choice. |
