Fucking Awesome! While trying to install a hogue 12"LOP overmold stock on my M500, I managed to strip the threads in the hole on the receiver. Fucking great, this stock was problems from the start. First I can't find a tool long enough in my house or at SEARs to reach down into the stock to put it in right, so I rig up this allan key/1/4" socket/driver thats just long enough, and I fuck it up.

Advice is appreciated, so far all I got is either getting a new receiver or tapping the hole.

Personally, I would tap the reciever one size larger and try to find a bolt long enough. I would definitly find the replacement bolt first. You could also add a recever nut like the 870 has. But I do not know the thread pitch for them.
Good luck.

once I find out where to find new bolts like I need, I am gonna get some and take the receiver to a friend's auto shop and tap the hole. Since I am not familiar with bolts, where do I get them? And is the size of the key used also the size of the bolt itself? I.E. the allan key is 1/4", so is the bolt 1/4" too? And I would find the next size up  (I'm not even sure what the next SAE size up from 1/4" is)? All very very new to me, but I don't have many other options.

WHOA!!!, before your do anything!

Helicoils suck, thread inserts are better!

I don't know what size the threads are, but using a thread insert would be lots better than just retapping to a larger size and running the risk of stripping it out again. The thread insert has threads on the outside, and on the inside. you have to drill and tap for the insert, but after you put one in you'll have the original size threads in the hole again. Plus, it'll be steel and shouldn't strip out again.

I suspect that it's either a 5/16"-18 or a 5/16"-24 bolt. Have your buddy measure it and determine whether it is the coarse(the -18 above) or fine(the -24 above) thread, then go to the links below to order thread inserts. You'll have to redrill the hole with a 27/64" drill(no, you can't use another size or the hole will end up too large), and then tap it with a 1/2"-13 tap. Be absolutely sure that you remove any oil or grease from the hole before putting the insert in, otherwise the loctite won't set properly.

I've contacted mossberg and I think I will have them look at it first, and see what options they offer. I will do it myself as a last ditch effort. I got ahold of Mossberg and asked them what they could do, but they refused to say and only offered to me that they will evaluate when they see it. I will take my chances with them.
