Pardon the ignorance here, but you can shoot sabot slugs out of a smooth-bore shotgun barrel with a modified choke, right? Also, how accurate are rifled slugs if shot out of a smooth-bore barrel with a rifled choke? If it makes any difference it's an 870 with a 28" barrel. Sorry, I've only used my shotty for birds and small game in the past. I don't want to blow myself up or something horrible like that.

MAN8, Both are safe. But for best results use rifled slugs in smooth bore barrels choked improved cylinder. Sabot slugs should be used in fully rifled barrels or with rifled choke tubes. MIKE.

Mike is right. Brenneke type slugs(rifled) in smooth bore and a rifled barrel for a sabot round.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.
