I have a sub 2000 with a very low serial number. When I bought it used the guy at the gun store said that it uses Beretta magazines. The magazines are not Beretta, Sig, or Smith and Wesson. Do I have one that has a proprietary magazine?
The magazine that came with it holds about 18 rounds and is all metal with no markings except for USA magazine is stamped on the baseplate. It extends about 1 1/2 inches below the handgrip. |

That's an aftermarket S&W 59 series magazine. Anybody know if keltec still sells gen1 magazine catches? Are they the only place to get them? |

The Sub2000 you have uses fullsize 59xx series mags. The 6906 is the compact and will not fit. You can switch the mag catch on yours and make it work with Beretta or Sig Mags. |

It's been a while since I had any 3rd gen pistols, but I thought you could use full size 59 series mags in a 69 series gun, they just hang down longer like using a GLOCK 17 mag in a 19? Quoted:

last I looked KT still sold replacement mag catches for gen I subs.
Mine is a gen II for Beretta mags, and some of my Beretta mags were cut to run in a Sig I no longer have. Both of them are cut much lower than what you have pictured, so S&W 59 is probably correct. Of the 3, Beretta 92 mags are probably the cheapest, so unless you have S&W mags lying around converting to Beretta would make the most sense. And gives you the option of factory 30s, 20s & flush 18s & 17s as well. All factory Beretta mags are made by Mec Gar. |

I called keltec, apparently some very early sub2000 were made for p11 magazines. Mine is very early, SN is around 1000. Guy I spoke with could've looked it up by SN, but I didn't have my SN handy.
I looked online, apparently p11 magazines are the same as SW 59 series magazines? Anyhow, he transferred me to a lady at the front desk who can take an order for gen1 parts over the phone. Left voicemail but she never called me back so I'll order it Monday. |

So I got the magazine catches in, they don't fit my gun.
In case it helps anybody: some of the very early Gen1 sub 2000's had a proprietary mag catch that use a Smith & Wesson 59 series magazines only. This catch looks just like the Glock magazine catch, except the Glock magazine catch has two bumps molded onto it so you can tell the difference. So the guy in here who said that the one I had on the picture was a Smith & Wesson magazine was correct. I have not determined if you can swap this early magazine catch up for the new were interchangeable ones. My serial number is below 2000 if that helps anybody. |
