I've done some searching & not found much on loading subsonic 223 rounds. Anyone have a load that works for them? I've been loading 223 for years but have my 1st can on the way in the next two months hopfully & I wanted to load some subsonic rounds for it.
So what powder, I currently use H335, do I need a different powder? What grain of the powder should I start with? What bullet, I like the Hornady 55 FMJ but have others, what works good for subsonic I would guess a heavy bullet? As always thanks for all the help. |

its going to be difficult, if not impossible to make a subsonic round that cycles the bolt.
i have heard that trailboss is a good powder for subsonic 223, but most people either single shot their ar's with it or use a bolt gun. between 4.5 to 5.0 grains of trailboss should be a decent load. you really need a chronograph to properly work up a load. |

Just get a 22upper. The power is pretty much the same. And cheaper to shoot. Unless you don't have any 22 Kind of false economy when you factor in the cost of the upper and cost & availability of .22 ammo...not to mention having to use different magazines. Plus, you loose the ability to instantly switch between subsonic and full power loads. |
