Is there anything I can use for buckshot buffer material besides the commercial stuff? Cornstarch,flour etc??  I want to use these rounds for coyote, so they have to pattern pretty tight at 50-70 yards.
I have some old style AA 2 3/4 inch hulls, a variety of wads, and some Red Dot,Blue Dot, Green Dot and some HS6 for powder with Win 209 primers.
I will be using some home-cast FF size shot I have on hand.

I have an old shotgun wildcatting book somewhere, and it has a good article on buffers. Can't seem to find the book right now but it had some intersesting pics of cases with flour and cornmeal buffers. The person writing the article figured the buffers were sticking to the cases and increasing pressuses a lot. The book is old so no modern equipment to measure what was happening, but some of the cases were stretched enough to be obvious to the naked eye. That said I know of poeple who love to use home brew buffers and seem to have good luck, or at least their vision. You should approach this with caution and get some proven data.

My suspicious gene thinks moisture might become a problem…

If you are using powder buffers like cornstarch flower etc. it would be OK if you fire them off soon after loading.

But 3, 6, 12 months or so what might have happened in that case??? Has it absorbed moisture and become one with the case???

This is where I think I would happy to pay the $8-9 for commercial buffer…

That is what I would do... or corn meal.  They are granular, not powder.  I think that is key.
Either way though, moisture would be an issue.  You could try sealing the crimp with wax maybe?  
Soak in water over night, then cut open & see what you have.

Thanks for the replies. I don't plan on keeping these rounds in storage for long and humidity isn't a problem here in AZ.
I will try the Cream o' wheat first.

Ok, I got a box of cream of wheat to experiment with. I plan on installing a spent primer, charge the hull with a 1oz load charge weight (18g Green Dot +/-) seat a WAA12 wad, then filling it with FF shot and buffer material.  After I'm satisfied with the crimp etc, I'll take the shell apart and see what the payload weighs. I can then adjust the powder charge accordingly.
I can see where the buffer material might become stuck to the hull, but I will be using a wad so this may not be an issue.
These shells will be loaded on an as-needed basis, so they won't be sitting in storage for long periods of time.
