I just recently bought an AR50A1......so the funds are limited. Is the Super Sniper scope alright to get started? They list for $300.00 on their site, maybe less on another site???
Just curious, like I said, funds are limited right now. Other considerations are the Bushnell Elite 3200, or the 6200 if I really save. Problem is it would be awhile before I could add the glass. Thanks for the input. |

My SS10x42 worked good on my 50BMG. I put it on my OBR and hit targets at 600-1100 yds. At these distances I was making constant elevation and windage changes and did not lose zero, uncommon with cheaper scopes. Make sure the description for the SS model you buy says "OK for .50 cal". Just realize you are buying a budget scope and that you will find it's limitations eventually. I found I need more magnification for long distance and something other than mil-dots for visual ranging.

Thanks for the input. Had the super sniper on my M82A1 for quite a while and had no problems. I too think it is the best budget scope out there. |

I found the 20x didn't quite have enough clarity for me, so I sold it. It held up to a hundred or so rounds of .50 first on my Bohica then on my Ferret50, and I wasn't unhappy with the feel of the turrets. Since then my Ferret50 is wearing a Nightforce NXS so I've gotten a little spoiled, but I am planning on getting the 10x SS for my LR-308.

I hope im not hijacking your thread but i just got an m82a1 and am in need of a scope and cant afford a nightforce yet. What ss would you guys suggest for shooting 5-600 yards? Would the 10X42 be ok? http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10x42-Tactical-Riflescope-KIT-P50224.aspx
Or would you guys suggest another scope? |

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m55/jweber_1/nightforceBORSBarrett.jpg A had a 16X SS on my old Barrett M99, but I think a 10x would be fine for 500yd shots. NICE GUN, NF and BORS! But that background has to go! |

I'd suggest the 16x for a 50. I had a 20x for one match. Not enough field of view. Plan on crossfiring. Plus it sucks at anything less than 600 yards.
10x is not really enough manification for 1000 yards +. So if you are on a limited budget, in my opinion, get the 16x supersniper, then start saving for a Nightforce. -David Edgewood, NM |

I run a 25X Leupold on my 200-600 yard gun. I would get the 20 and wish they had a 30-40. .50's are capable of shooting well past 2000 yards. Now if you don't have the range to open her up then I would consider the 16X but then why even bother with a .50 if your not at least at 1000 yards. |

Lots better glass than a Supersniper. 2. What are you shooting? Benchrest? 25x at 200? are you kidding me? I shoot to 1200 plenty with 15x, and more than a little with iron to 1000. 3. I bet only 2 in 10 fifty cal owners EVER shoot past 600 yards. And only 1 in 50 ever shoot past 1000 yards. 4. A well tuned 50 with excellent handloads is capable of shooting past 2000 yards. 99% of shooters aren't. And they'll never know because they don't have the space to try. 5. Lets face it...most 50 shooters shoot 100 to 600 yards 90% of the time. The other 10% goes to 1000 yards. And rarely can someone dope wind well enough to realize the benefits of higher mag. I've run into more 50 shooters that were disappointed in their 8.5-25x Mark 4 or 12-42x NXS because neither had enough elevation to get there. IF there wasn't mirage and IF you could range the target beyond 1000, unless you have a 50 MOA base or an adjustable base, you ain't getting to a mile with a high powered scope...not enough elevation. I suggest the 16x Supersniper for the typical budget 50 BMG application. Little more FOV than a 20x with a little extra punch to get out there. -David Edgewood, NM |

After all of the posts, I feel comfortable going with the SS. I am pretty sure I will go with the 16x....I think this will serve me well, if I get real serious and start going "way out" I will consider upgrading.
Thanks again everyone! ETA: Next question......RINGS????? I'm sure there are a lot of pro's and con's out there. |
