Instead of buying a new gun or car stereo, I want to suppress my one and only pistol.
It is a 1989 Browning Hi Power MkIII in 9mm.
I am somewhat familiar with the paperwork process, but I would like advice on the technical aspects of doing so.
I will need a new bbl, with a threaded extension - where would a good place be to obtain this?
Also, what cans do you recommend?
I'm looking at all price ranges for cans, but I would like to find a good compromise between aesthetics, cost, and performance.
I would like to avoid use of a recoil booster, if at all possible - I want the can to be mounted as close as possible to the muzzle, for a more streamlined appearance.

Thanks in advance.

>>> for the cost of a new extended threaded barrel, you can haev an extension added to your current barrel. Figure on spending around $150-$200

I have made barrel extensions for multiple types of 9mm guns.  Guy gave me a High Power, problem being the barrel is not of sufficient diameter to thread half inch to match std. silencer threads.  The hole in the end of the slide is small also, so a permanant adaptation up in diameter wouild require a Walther P22 type of removable adapter to be able to take the gun apart for cleaning.

I am guessing a non boostered can is not going to work, unless it's a small wet can that needs re-greasing every magazine.

I am sure somone has done it, keep looking about for definative info.

My hipower won't run without a booster.

I use an AAC Evo 9 on it and it works great.

Just buy a new threaded barrel.. extensions are hard to do on the hipower.

Good luck,

Kent

I have an AAC Evolution 9. The booster is inside the can and you don't even know it is there.

Thanks!
That is exactly what I am looking for.

How would the extension be added?

Not a Hi-Power barrel, but the same concept would apply.

HK P9S barrel with a TROS extention:

With an extended/threaded barrel and a Evol-9 on the BHP, can you still use the sights?

And is it practical to use that same can on a 9mm AR?

I don't know, but I doubt it.
I have my Evo9 mounted on a Glock 34 and was unable to see the sights. I bought a new set of sights since getting the can.
I own several Hi-Powers but don't own a threaded barrel (yet). The sights on them are no higher than they were on the stock Glock so I think I can pretty safely say that you won't be able to see the sights.

Hi All,

The BHP and Evo9 shoot fine.  At one point shortly after getting the barrel I broke the loop on the recoil guide rod.  The caveat here is I handload 9mm +P+ as my practice ammo.  I think the timing/age was more of an issue than the suppressor.  No problems since, except the barrel has a tight chamber and doesn't like the dirty, cheap Silver Bear subsonics I shoot.  So I got some 147gr Remington JHPs to reload now.

See the attached pics.  My main concern is the barrel diameter is barely 1/2", so there's very little 'shoulder' behind the threads.  It seems to work fine, and accuracy is excellent.  The standard sights fall just under the diameter of the Evo9, so it's a matter of shooting both eyes open to align the sights and target.

This barrel was a cheap item I found at Sportsman's Guide or CheaperThanDirt.  I'd recommend going to KKM, Barsto, or Jarvis for a real barrel instead.

fyi

Allen
