So I picked up my first Benelli M1 super 90. Is it worth buying a Surefire foregrip for it? What is the going rate for a used 2nd generation.

Yes they are. They are great and easy to use. I love mine.

I recall reading that something like 85% of self-defense shootings occur in low light. (FBI stat)

A light is a requirement for any self defense weapon. I have a Surefire X300 hooked to my Sig P220 for home defense.

Beware the SF light on the Benelli.

If you do a little research you'll find that Benelli's get tempermental when you start hanging weight off of the front. Toss in some "tactical light" loads or bird rounds and you're down to a single shot shotty.

My M1s run fantastic with all loads except when I drop a light off the end. A call to a bro at LAPD confirmed similar problems with theirs.

Try before you buy if possible.

I've got a SureFire forearm for my Mossberg 500A Persuader. After several hundred slugs and OO buckshot, the SureFire is working fine. It is a must for tactical/HD scenarios.
