Was curious about purchasing due to it advertising that you can hear normal sounds, but these knock out anything 'too loud'.
Anyone have any experience with these at the range and in the field as direct replacements for regular earplugs? I generally only wear normal earplugs and was curious if these were the same/better/worse as far as ear protection and comfort. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/561898-REG/Surefire_EP4_MPR_EP4_Sonic_Defenders_Plus.html Thanks |

I have the EP3s and love em. Not sure what the diff between those and the EP4s is though ditto this. i use ep3's. for me outdoor ranges with rifles is fine, indoor pistols is fine. not protective enough for rifles on indoor ranges over more than a couple of shots. can hear normal conversations volumes close to, well normal. |

Love my ep-3's the wife does not like hers. the EP4's have an extra "flange" on them, otherwise same. But I have no issues with rifles up to 50bmg with the ep3's, I do however "muff up" if I shoot more than a few 50's. I've never shot indoors with ep-3's so I can't speak to that. Previous post about them have essentially been a love hate thing. If you have small ear canals you probably won't like them. |

The part that goes in your ear canal only comes in one size for the type. EP4's by virtue of having the extra flange are slightly deeper than the EP3s.
The sizing is for the outer part that goes in the helix (IIRC that's what it's called) of your ear. S,M,L refer to the size of your outer ear. Also, you and adjust both the depth and angle of the insert piece that goes into your ear canal. Look closely and you'll see the plugs are molded in several pieces. Rotate the ear canal part to the right angle for your ear shape. I wear an EP2 most days with a radio earpiece, and occaisionally EP3 with a radio in one of them. It takes a few minutes to adjust to them, and a little time to get used to the fit, but they are very comfortable. |
| i have the 3's and i really like them, i figured the army said i got medium plugs, so i got meduim ep3's hardest thing was to learn how to put them in correctly. if you cannot get them in just right they are a little painful... but i got them figured out and love them |
| I've been using the EP3s for a while and love them. They work fine on outdoor ranges, and indoor with handgun/shotgun - indoor with rifle gets bad, so I put muffs on top. You can hear conversations fine, but it still sounds like you have something in your ear. Just ordered a set of EP4s to give them a try. If either one fits your ear and is comfortable, then they are well worth the money. |

SF EarPro is based on the size of your outer ear. That said, most people seem to wear Mediums in SF plugs. I've helped ~10 coworkers get them, and all have been medium except one dude. |

Used the EP3s (the 4s didn't exist yet) since they came out. Used them as a M240 gunner for a 1,000-rounds-in an hour class, as a turret gunner and blocking out jet engine noise. Shot most small caliber arms with them and they work fine.
If you leave the extra plug section out, they work as advertise and only block loud sounds (gunfire, loud engines/jets). If you put the extra little plug section in they act as standard plugs. I've got two pairs and they work well. No real discomfort, they fit well under helmets. |
| I bought a pair of the EP3s and found them to be rather comfortable. Prior to these, I mainly used the old yellow foam ear plugs. My EP3s do a great job shooting my AR15 outdoors (haven't tried any indoor rifle shooting). I can hear fine while using them. So, in my opinion they are worth the money. |
| I have a pair pf EP3s and love them. Used them to patrol the airport, reduces the sound of planes during take offs and landings and the noisey ass buses in the terminals. Plus I can still have a normal conversation with patrons without having them shout. Very nice! |
