I saw a bunch of helmets at a local surplus store. I live near an Army base, so this is a real surplus store, not the type full of airsoft crap. I'm not sure what type of helmet, not the old PASGT, I assume whatever is current Army issue.
Are these things allowed for resale, or is this going to be stolen gov't property? |

Stolen or worse. DRMO.
They take all the old unservicable equipment and the department of reutilzation marketing office (now under a different name cant remember what) sells it at auctions. It is supposed to be stamped DRMO so it can be verified that the equipment is not stolen but if it is you cant use it to DX for new equipment (servicemembers!!!) I would buy new if you are planning to use it for real. If its just for momento sake or for costume apparatus then thats fine. ALSO!!! Careful with the newish ACH. We had a big recall not to long ago from a vendor. I think it was specialty defense I mean ArmorSource and Rabintex . PEO Soldier or google ACH recall to find out which ones are faulty and make sure you dont by a bad one. Helmet Recall Sorry about the Specialty Defense. Every time something on my gear goes wrong its usually got a SD tag on it. Hydration carrier that wouldnt seal. Fastex buckles breaking. Snaps... Seriously. Metal snaps for my M9 mag pouches that would never release and your scared to pull to hard for fear of it breaking. |

Very true!
An who usually buys it? I really dont think the surplus stores are lining up for auctions. Not when I see a whole lotta Iraqi Army wearing last years helmets and LBVs. I wish there was a way to pull up CID reports or any military criminal investigation reports on surplus stores that surround military bases. If anything just ask them where they got it. If he throws you out or wont tell them maybe he aint that legit. |

The only armor that is there now is a shit ton of safariland concealble armor. surplus stores now generally buy from a few large distributors nationwide due to the volume of purchases required now. some still bid on specific items but small qty purchases usually not. |

they are likely just fine. drmo surplus's tons of good gear. design changes "end of life" dates reached etc. if it was at a legit store i really wouldn't worry about it. I think it's against the law for DRMO to sell armor and such to the general public. nope. i have some. unless that has changed in the last 5 years when we bought what we did. i specifically had the drmo check this and provide me a letter before we paid for the pallett to ensure we were legal. i do know it can not be exported. The .gov generally makes sure the newer style armo just doesn't come available. |

Got that right. true on the safariland for the masses but alot of them are getting plate carriers with soft body armor also. Hey beer slayer are you in the surplus biz? |

was part time awhile back. i saw more than a few auctions of interceptors with 2001 dated soft panels in them. How long ago? I spent a couple of days making up a drill about 2-3 years ago by cutting up IBAs and hitting SAPI plates with a sledgehammer for the supply sergeant. They had to be rendered completely unserviceable before they could be sent out, according to him at least. |
