| Which brand do you prefer for ease and strength: The RCBS Pocket Swager Tool or the Dillon Super Swage 600? |
|
I used the RCBS press-mounted swager for 40 years....it's cheap and it works, but it isn't speed champ, and pulling the buttons loose from a pocket requires a bang of the press handle to release it. These days I prefer to deprime size and swage rifle at the same time. That required either a another press, or a bench swager......guess which I picked. I haven't used the Dillon, but it and RCBS bench-mounted tool is for all intents and purposes the same thing. More convenient, a bit faster, and pricier. The differences are in mounting, direction of the lever handle. Both of those made me buy the RCBS version, for the better fit where I wanted to put it on the bench, and how it interfaces with my press and my Trim Mate....and that's different for everybody. I prefer to swage, then use the Trim Mate to uniform the primer hole depth. (and deburr flash holes) On the Trim Mate, I use an extra 1/2 a second to touch the rim with a turning RCBS military reamer to slightly chamfer the entrance. That's makes primers start & center easier in my progressive, with the bonus is it make the pocket look commercial removing all traces of the surface crimp indent. Why do I care? Swaged only cases often look like unswaged cases.....the little chamfer from the reamer makes them unmistakably identifiable. I reviewed the RCBS Bench Swager here on Arfcom....video isn't perfect but it shows how it works. (click the first picture in the review) |

Press mounted. Why buy the same thing in RCBS if you already had a Dillon? Or why buy a Dillon swager if you already had the RCBS bench mounted? Quoted:

I have both. The RCBS is never used. bench mount or press mount? Why buy the same thing in RCBS if you already had a Dillon? Or why buy a Dillon swager if you already had the RCBS bench mounted? I thought that's what you meant, just curious. As to the second question, its arfcom, get both.

I like the RCBS swage die. Works great, takes no longer than sizing. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile This... I bought the RCBS swage die but then bought a Dillon a while later at a bargain price. I saw no real advantage over the RCBS swage die so sold the Dillon. |

I had the RCBS for almost 10 years, was happy with it but decided to upgrade to the Dillon. It is a huge difference, I wish I bought the Dillon years ago. It is much easier to use, faster, and easier to set up. Looking back I would never use the RCBS again. Please be more specific. Posts such as this can confuse people who don't know the products. The one he used for 10 years was the old press-mounted swager. The newer RCBS bench swager he's obviously never owned (it was introduced at the Shot Show two years ago). It is not the product the poster "would never use" again. The RCBS bench swager is in function nearly identical to Dillon he upgraded to. Look at your space and decide between the two (if you want a bench swager) based on which stroke you have room for or prefer. The long handle of the Dillon is used like a press handle in front of the bench. The short stroke of the RCBS is sideways and stays on top of the bench. That's the only real difference. |

I didn't even realize RCBS had a bench swager now. I was comparing the Dillon Super Swager to the RCBS swage die. |
