well, my reloading supplies have started rolling in. sorta useless until i get dies and plates
Anyhow, anxious, i decided to play with the RCBS swager. first thing i notice is the method of side pressure instead up up/down like the dillion seems like it may be an issue since i don't want to mount mine to my table. Just an early newbie observation. Second though.....setting the tool up to swage. I setup the initial .125 (or whatever the instructions said, i don't have it in front of me) and moved it in on several pieces of brass, i tried various depths from where it went in semi easy to others where you had to put some force down on it to swage. Gotta say, i can't see any before/after difference. So it's got me wondering, is my brass even crimped? (yes it's got that inner ring they say to look for) all my brass so far is either the wally world m855 in the 420 count box, PMC from the LGS, or some ammo i picked up at a gun show from georgia ammunition. (heck..perhaps it just looks crimped??) From the looks of the tool, it just looks like all it's doing is pressing the brass into the pocket or perhaps expanding the pocket size, but again can't really tell where to correctly set it. Guess i was expecting some shavings, or at least a pop or other signal that it was removed. |

If you get shavings with a swager, you are really doing something wrong. |

I mounted mine to a piece of 1x6, and I use two C-Clamps to anchor it to my bench when I'm swaging. I adjusted it by swaging and then priming cases one at a time until I was happy with the adjustment. very good idea...now to just wait for primers :-) and shell plate..powder....ugggg the wait is the worst part. |

I put that pic up in FAQ's and have posted it several times. No problem using it. You really need to seat a primer after swaging to adjust the amount of swaging you are doing. Not enough swage, primer hard to seat or gets mangled during seating. Too much swage, primer pocket loose, case ruined. Sort cases to headstamp, because the web thickness varies. You can screw swager to a board and clamp board to bench when in use.
