I recently aquired a poly tech barrel and bolt as spare's for my Norinco. The new bolt headspace's MUCH nicer. My old bolt almost closed on my Clymer 1.6405 gauge. The newer bolt has less than 500 rounds on it and has about .130 to .135 before it close's on the same gauge. The lug is slightly more than halfway  engaged with very light finger pressure. The new bolt close's on a full length sized Lake City case with just a very slight fore and aft movement maybe 1 or 2 thou. Since these are both Chi Com bolt's going into a chi com reciever should I be okay? Thank's ahead of time. Rick

No speedy response's? Well I took it by my gunsmith with both bolt's my resized case and my headspace gauge's. And he checked it out. Said good to go. I assembled the bolt and installed it last nite. Ran some dummy rounds thru to check function found out wolf "Extra power" ejector springs are not a good thing. Using stock spring all good. Bolt close's fully even when riding the op rod down. Fit's better than old one as far as headspace goes. Last bolt lasted many thousands of rounds. I'll keep checking headspace to assure this one will as well.

Looks like you got a handle on the bolt issue. I have a Norinco also and the original bolt headspaces fine on NATO gages. I have NATO reject 1.6455 gage I keep handy and check at every range session. No issues so far.

I am not running around like Chicken Little on this so call soft bolt issue with Chinese rifles. Doing the math of a conversion plus the cost of a USGI bolt, it was cheaper to keep a couple of extra Chinese bolts for any eventuality that "may" arise.

Hootbro, That is exactly what I'm trying to accomplish. When I first got this rifle I found all sort's of negative "Bolt soft" "Reciever Soft" info. I bought headspace gauge's 1 at 1.6405 and the other at 1.6455 got a book did tons of research. And Immediatly began looking into USGI bolt and barrel. And found I'm not alone and there are many good deals on Chi Com bolts and barrels from people who have done the swap. So with my CFO limiting my budget I thought why not pick up a spare bolt or two and a barrel or 2. And swap to get the right headspace. Save the barrel's and maybe use one when I can finally afford a USGI bolt. I have less invested in 2 barrels and the bolt I just installed than the price of a stripped USGI bolt. And I now have extra extractors, Ejectors and firing pins. And my Norinco has headspace right in spec with NM specs. And by swapping some less expensive parts for USGI I can up my compliance count as well.

Where did you get the 1.6405 gauge?

Do you have good engagement with both bolt lugs? Planning on lapping the bolt for full contact?

Good on ya for finding a better fit on the budget plan.

I got the gauge from Clymer it's a special order item and about twice the cost of SAMMI spec. No I do not plan on lapping lugs as I already have full engagement which I was worried about. Hence the trip to the gunsmith. Unless you know something I don't? Which is possible.
