I was recently issued a set of swimmers cut stand-alone Level IV plates, and I'm looking into PC options. They came in a S&S precision "Plateframe", and I'm not sure I'm sold on it. It's very light, very low profile and scale-able, but I don't care for the way it sits or for the shoulder strap material (it feels extremely sharp and I worry it'll cut my ear off while donning/doffing!).
My question is, are there any reasonably priced PCs out there that will accommodate this plate cut without the material bunching where the normal shaped plates would be at the top? I've considered cutting out Styrofoam or perhaps rubber with a similar thickness to the plates to put in the gap..and might give it a try. Based on my own searching, I've found the Crye AirLite EK03 will work with swimmers cut. I may give that one a shot, too, but I figured I'd see what else might be out there that I'm too dumb to find. Thanks for your input! PS What size swimmer plates do you have, XL? While you are visiting LBT for 6094 and 6094RS, if you want a simple two piece pc, don't forget to also check out the 6037 series. Like other gear trends, they now make them in a much lighter fabric prone to tear that I don't like. If you don't mind the older version they no longer make with 1000D fabric that I like, look for this LBT 6037 maybe LBT has a few tucked away in the back vaults. What I like about the 6037 is that in many cases, the same pc can accommodate various plate cuts and types. |
