Hi,

I currently have a Liberty Fatboy Jr, which uses their outlet kit for an interior power source. Inside, I have the power split for lighting (Liberty light bars) and a Golden Rod (24"). I have a temperature/humidity reader inside the safe, but also Liberty Safelert that gives me the conditions remotely on my iPhone (also lets me know if someone opens or moves the safe). Usually both readings are pretty close... maybe a degree or so off.

Due to my AC/heating system, I sometimes need to toss in rechargeable desiccants when humidity rises (AC on). On the other end of the spectrum, I do not have a way to raise humidity when the heat is on (forced hot air, which does have a humidifier on the system).

I try to keep the safe between 30% and 40% humidity. When it goes above 40%, I toss in the desiccants and recharge as necessary. This past season, I've had the humidity go down into the high teens. I would find myself opening the safe periodically to allow the humidity to go back into my desired range (really would just allow it to get into the mid-20s).

This low humidity had me think about a way to raise it... which is what I wanted to run by you guys. I found an inline WiFi switch, which I'm thinking to put between the power supply and the Golden Rod. If I have the low humidity alarm go off, I can remotely shut it off. That should allow the temperature in the safe to decrease, allowing the humidity to rise. As a backup, I have a high humidity alarm, which would remind me if I need to toss the Golden Rod back on.

Figured this would be simpler and cleaner. I don't want to cut the cord for the Golden Rod and wire in a switch, as then I would physically have to turn it off/on (a lot of times the humidity goes low is while I'm working).

Any insight on this would be appreciated.

You usually strive for a temperature differential that prevents condensation.  A Goldenrod should achieve this, and a light coat of CLP should take care of anything else.

I live in an extreme of low humidity and don't give anymore thought to it than this.

Are you keeping your cigars in your safe?

Not unless trade opens back up with Cuba...

I pulled most of the leather out of my safe (slings, frogs, and alike), but worry more about drying out stocks at that point. Most people I've talked to said to strive for the 30% to 40% range.

I have never had the humidity below 50% at any time in the last 20 years, no rust issues.

You do not want temperature or humidity swings.
