I would like to hear from people that have the TAC-65. Is it worth the money? How quiet it it compared to the Outback II? Anything you would like to add please do....Thanks KC

I don't have a Tac 65, but I have a Tac 67 with 4 AL baffles, so that's pretty close.

They both use K baffles the Gemtech is sealed up and can't be cleaned by disassembly.  The Gemtech is quieter than the Tac 65.  It's a tradeoff and really depends on your intended use.

just how much quieter than the outback? I want a suppressor that is going to last a life time. Being able to to take apart the TAC65 is the reason I am leaning towards it.

I like mine. I live in the city and fire it in my garage. Its no louder than a bb gun with subsonics. My advice is get what you can afford.

I've heard a tac (not sure if it was the 65 or 67) side by side with an OutbackII and Pilot.  The Outback and Pilot were quieter -- enough that I could clearly tell the difference, but not massively so.  The biggest difference was probably in the first-round pop.  There was noticeably less pop in the higher-end cans.

I have one of the super-simple (and inexpensive) stamped-washer cans made by NFA Investments, and it was a hair louder than the Tac.

The Gem-Tech and AAC cans seemed equally quiet, but with a slightly different tone.  The friend who was demoing the cans that day ended up buying the Pilot.

I walked away with the impression that you can pay a lot more for a little more noise reduction.  I could have paid 4 or 5 times as much for a slightly queiter, prettier can that didn't disassemble for cleaning.  The Tac costs about twice what mine did, is a little quieter, and can be disassembled.  It's a good value IMO, and has the advantage of coming apart, but is slight step down in performance from the Outback or Pilot.

Hope that helps.

If you have never shot a good can, and never will shoot around people with a good can then the Wheatly cans will make you happy.

My reccomendation buy the best, buy once, never have to upgrade.

Now the "Wheatly cans" are bad cans?

I have a Tac-64, with the upgraded baffle stack (Tac-65 stack).  I'm very happy with it.  But then again, I don't worry about having the quietest can out there either.  Mine has done exactly what it is supposed to do.  Craig is a fine person to deal with as well.  Only regret is I did'nt get the 67, did'nt have a F/A .22 at the time, now I do!

There is something to be said for this reasoning.  If you're only concerned with keeping it quiet for yourself and the neighbors, any of the above will accomplish that.  If you'll be going to shoots with other can owners and don't want to be out-silenced, then don't get the Tac.

Never said they were bad, they just are not good enough for me.

Actually, the current TAC-65 cans have an extra baffle compared to the ones produced prior to TI's move so the current TAC's are as quiet as the Outback & The Pilot with little to no FRP. If you are comparing an older TAC 65's then it's not a valid comparison.
