My wife volunteered me to sell a 50cal TC Hawken for a work friend.  She got it from an uncle who passed away and has no use for it.  She looked it up on the internet and thinks they are worth $400-$600  I tried to explain that people ask all kinds of crazy numbers but its not like they actually sell at the price.

The rifle is in good shape with a couple minor handling marks, the barrel looks pretty clean. I haven't shot it YET but its in pretty good condition and have no doubt it will fire.  Those set triggers are really touchy

What do you think is a fair selling price on one of these?

Is it a kit gun or a factory assembled?  Kit gun serial numbers start with a "K".

I paid $200 for mine in november. It is. 54 cal and those seem to sell for a bit more. You are past deer season so im not sure.

It is a kit gun.  Is that less desirable?

Thats a 150-200 gun at most.

The kit guns price all depends on how well the person put it together did with finishing it.  If the mould marks are not removed from the brass, even less money

I have nothing to add about the value but...
If the set trigger is too light that little screw in between is how you adjust the let off point.

Keep it and shoot it yourself, in these lean times ammo is easily available for these and I am having an absolute ball shooting my .54 cal.

T/C Hawkens are nice Muzzleloaders.

Unfortunately, there has been a shifting preference on the part of consumers to In-Line Muzzleloaders with rifling twists appropriate for Saboted Bullets.

When S& W took over T/C, they pushed the wholesale price of a  new TC Hawken to $650, from $450.

Hawkens with good barrels shoot properly lubed & patched  are capable of good accuracy, without too much load work up, of 1-2" at 100 yds. One should also keep in mind that even if the barrel has pitting it may shoot well enough at 50 yds to kill a deer with a TC Maxi Ball or Maxi Hunter.  Some even report saboted bullets will perform well in barrels in poor condition, where others fail.

However most TC Hawkens I have found offered for Sale have barrels which are in poor condition, due to improper maintenace, for $100-175.  A TC Hawken in good condition with a very good to like new bore can bring up to $250 if one can find a buyer.

The rifle you inherited looks nice, and will likely shoot well with a barrel in very good to excellent condition.
