Optics are a practical tool, purpose driven by nature. Other than the kind of weapon you have you provided no info on how you plan to use it, or if you are looking to combo the NV and a daylight optic, etc. |

I will head over to the NV section thanks for bring it to my attention.
As for use I want to make to portable so I can move it from my A4's to my A2. The main purpose of this optic will be to kill some coyotes when they wander to near the house. I wouldn't mind a combination, like a Eotech/3rd Gen NV, but I want the night vision to be able to stand alone on top of my A2 and have a dot or something??? I have a Standard A4 and I wouldn't mind being able to place the NV in front of a 10X varmint scope. So one NV three applications with three different rifle? Stand alone with a reticle on top of A2 Standard (or if I must a red dot) Be used with Eotech on A4 Carbine Be able to be place in front of a varmint scope A4 Standard A neighbor down the road had his dog killed; I didn't tell him but I heard it screaming on the night it was died. It made me absolutely sick to stand and listen to the few minute ordeal knowing I could do nothing. I saw a lot of eye shine when I flashed my Fenix P3D over the area but it was approximately 150 yards from my back deck and wooded. I was going to fire one round down towards the creek which is in the bottom of a hollow that my house over looks but decided against it because even with my 220 lumen light I wasn't sure what was down there, I know that deer/rabbit bed down in the high brush line. Yes, we have a dedicated night vision forum. Its in the armory section. A buddy has a D-740, Gen III auto gated unit with ARMS throw lever mount and its super sweet. The really expensive units are the Raptor, PVS/17, or PVS/22 in front of your current optic.
You will have all you ever wanted to read about in the NV section though. |

Seems like coyote's are a common reason for nv. For me it was that and the occasional late night visitor out here on the farm. But really, it more for just recreation.
I'm new to this myself, but I think you need to head mount your nod and then use another source to aim with. That would be an ir or visible laser. Try during the day time walking around maintaining a sight picture with your rifle and see how long it takes to get tiring. Just a couple nights ago I finally got to shoot my set up at night and I can say that at 100 yards a dog sized target would be easy shooting. I am using a pvs14 with a red laser. |

A weapon mouted scope like ad- 740 or 760 in a gen II shp or a gen III would be the best set up if your dedicating one weapon for night hunting. However, with you wanting to use the NVG on different platforms your probably going to have to go with a mum or pvs-14. I would get a gen III due to the light lose in mounting the mono infront of a day scope. Using a eotech your range is going to be limited without a 3x magnifier.
I purchased the mum first using it with a eotech. (no magnifier) I use this set up with the mum being helmet mounted shooting pigs. With a torch I feel comfortable shooting 75yards or so aiming at the ear. Yotes arent nearly as big as hogs, so I would think your range would be even more limited. I ended up getting a d-760 from Victor and dedicated a weapon to night hunting. In my opinion this is a superior set up compared to the mum and eotech. Now the mum is helmet mounted for scouting with the 760 being used for all the shooting. Its really going to be hard getting any kind of cheek weld mounting a 740/760 on top of a A2 platform. |
