| i am new to this, my question is do u have to have a class3 to own one or can any one in tx, if so how do i get one |
FISHER123, Yes, you can own silencers in TX. No class 3 license is necessary, but you do have to purchase through a dealer licensed to sell such items. Take a few mintues to read this and it will make more sense: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=17&t=199928 Basically, find a "Class 3" dealer (I'm using that term loosely, as there's actually more to it than that) in your area. Decide what you want, and let them handle the transfer. You'll either order directly from them or order from somewhere else -- usually out of state -- and pay them to handle the transaction. You pay for the silencer and submit a Form 4 in duplicate along with a check for $200 to the ATF. That transfers ownership of the item to you. It takes 3-6 weeks for that form to be approved, then you can take the silencer home. The Form 4's require a passport photo, signature of the local Chief LEO, and an accompanying set of fingerprint cards. You can also register to the silencer to a Corporation or Trust, in which case the photo, fingerprints, and LEO signature aren't required. Are you confused yet? What part of Texas are you in? |
You might look up Keith at NFA Investments in Spring. That's sort of on the other side of the houstonplex from you, but he's a great guy to deal with and was very helpful walking me through my first Class III purchases. |

First, a better title of your post would help alot. Read this and replace "machine gun" with "suppressor": www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=17&t=199928 Also, you have to be 21YO. |
Also try David at Pasadena Gun Center (Pasadena Area) and/or Michael at Talon Arms (Heights Area). I have used both and both are outstanding for C3 transfers. |
