I need to replace my old, cheap, milsurp vest and get a new one so i was wondering what people's favorite setups are and favorite brands. Also interested in some recommendations on people's recommended items to carry on a tactical vest Svej |

+1 on going with a chest rig or a belt setup. The vests are so hot and some are rather rigid, limiting movement and mobility. I just picked up one of these and they are a great, simple, no BS way to carry a considerable amount of stuff comfortably. Plus, they don't retain all the body heat like a vest does: Eagle/SKD Universal Chest Rig You can get them in a wide variety of colors, including ACU which I chose. The product that arrived had much darker colors than the example shown above. It doesn't look anywhere near that "white". It looks really, really good actually. I don't have any pics of my rig yet to share. But I can't figure why in so many photos, ACU items show up looking like they are light gray and white, when in reality they are foliage green and tan. Or at least all of my ACU items, including a set of Propper clothing, this chest rig and a TT thigh holster are. The colors are so dark in fact that I think it actually looks good out in the woods. I much prefer it to the old woodland pattern to be honest. I have found the ACU pattern to look much better in person than it has appeared in many photos. I no longer have any hesitation about using it after trying it. But with that rig, you can carry up to 8 AR mags, 4 AK mags or 4 M-14/FAL type mags. You can also carry up to 4 pistol mags in the pockets in front of the rifle mag pouches. The two outer mag pockets with the strap will also serve as a universal pistol holster and it fit my Glocks, Sigs, Rugers, etc surprisingly well, securely holding them in place. But I choose to carry in a drop-leg and keep that extra pouch filled with two rifle mags. As for additions, I added an HSGI modular nalgene bottle pouch on the left side and an HSGI med pouch on the right side. There's ample room there to add those on the unused webbing. For situations in which I'm not out walking miles and miles, that is enough stuff to accomodate my needs. I consider such a rig ideal for SHTF security around your property or for vehicle use. www.skdtac.com/ProductImages/eagle/Thumb_chest_acu_big.jpg At those prices, these are really hard to beat. And the quality is top notch. |
