How many Lumen's would be considered good for a shotgun?

80+. But it depends on where you will be using it.  I use a Surefire 6P Defender with a Malcoff M60 LED conversion and it is a great all around light.  It gives me about 235 lumens.

My surefire has 65 lumens, thats enough to light up an entire large-sized room.

Led's the way to go?

I don't know if the incandescent bulbs could handle shock.

My surefire is incandescent I've never had a problem, YMMV.

LED's offer extended bulb and battery life, but I've been told incandescents throw light out to longer ranges.  Don't know if this is fact or myth I have never tested it myself.

You got me on that one.I don't know either.

An LED fixture with multiple LED lights will be more difficult to focus, and hence have less reach... But in all reality it's a pretty small difference, and I would quickly and gladly take the extra bulb and battery life.

ETA: There are many other factors that figure into 'reach' which is not a technical term.  Please don't make a purchase based on what I said, it's just a piece of trivia from a guy who does theatrical lighting.

I have the surefire dedicated flashlight forend on my 870.  It works great and has been 100%.  The Surefire weapon lights that are incandecent can hold up to the recoil.  That being said LED is THE way to these days.  My little surefire with the Malcoff LED conversion head is putting out a nice prefocused beam of light with plenty of reach all they way out to approx. 75 yards.

A surefire 6-volt P60L is just barely bright enough for 50Meter use.  Its plenty bright for indoor use.

True. Incans generally have better "throw" LEDs have better flood "side spill"

my surefire z2 works just fine after several round of slugs and bucks fired...

I was wondering more about shock from dropping the
gun not so much recoil.I'm sure Surefire designed it for
this.

I'm looking for good light output  for indoor use with
the need to use outdoors due to having some acreage.

It seems everyone really endorses the Surefire.
Are there other options as good?

For a house shotty I would, and am, using a Malkoff M60F (flood) in a Surefire fore end.  Basically there ain't no dark left to hide in when that baby lights up the night.

Eh, it's good stuff.  I've been a fan ever since they started as Laser Products.

As a general rule, LEDs are great indoors.  Incans are great outdoors and indoors.  That is mainly due to the throw of the incans.
I use both and don't have problems with either one.

it doesnt really matter which one has more "throw" if its going on a shotgun.

I disagree.
There are certainly situations where you want to see farther than 15-25 feet.

I used to think 65 lumens was the cats ass, now that I got a 500 lumen light I feel like I can't see with my old 65 lumen lights.
