Searched the site with no luck so I'll post here... I've found Tannerite on the web via their site. Is this stuff as safe as they say regarding mixing? I've seen it used once and thought it was impressive. Anybody out there have lots of experience with it? What rifles do you shoot and at what distances? Any pictures? Thx- |
| I have a post from last week all about it labled Exploding Targets. It is very safe even after it is mixed. As long as there is nothing for it to pick up and throw any thing you can stay relitively close with no injury. Luck of the draw has alot to do with it also, you never no a nat could get blown into your eye! |

I use to make my own. German Black aluminum dust with Potassium Perchlorate. You didn't need to shoot it,a fuse ( LONG one ) was all it took to make it explode. By explode I mean EXPLODE, not just make a flash and smoke like blackpowder. Two tablespoons worth in a pile on the bare ground would blow a good hole. I quit messing with that stuff when my first one was born. |
I have used a fair amount of it. It is very stable. I've seen people using bottles of it as a hammer to drive a small stake into the ground. I've shaken the crap out of it to mix it with no ill effects. I think on his website Tanner drops a sledge hammer on it and nothing happens. You have to use a high velocity round to set it off, or a blasting cap. 7.62x39 won't set it off reliably. 22 won't at all, I don't think any handgun rounds will, but have never tried. 223 works great. I usually try to stay ATLEAST 50 yards away from single bottles, unless there is stuff around that can turn into shrapnel such as metal(don't shoot it around metal!!), rocks, etc.... 100 yards or more is preferable. I've got some videos, i'll see if I can dig them up. ETA: here is a video from the Washington crews last shoot. There is a little bumpfiring at the beginning, but there is some tannerite towards the end. Someone had a cardboard cutout of George Foreman they setup as a target. I think it was a sunny delight bottle filled with 12 or so regular tannerite targets. Right click and "save as" to view the vid. www.mcternen.com/ar15/ARMEDPILOT/ARFCOMSHOOT.wmv |
