I purchased a M1 Garand several years ago for fairly cheap. I actually went to buy a M1 Carbine from a guy and ended up buying the Garand with it. But I digress, the receiver on the Garand has been tapped with 4 hex screws for a scope mount which I have too. I know this was probably done post war by a previous private owner. My question is how much would this affect the value of the gun overall? It is a SA from 5/44 with matching receiver and barrel in Ok condition with a sanded and refinished stock.
I was just curious because I was thinking of rebuilding the whole rifle and having a fun 30-06 scoped semi auto rifle. But I don't want to do this to an original WWII rifle unless the tapping of the receiver totally destroys its collectible value. |
| I am 99.9% sure it is not a M1C. I thought it might be when I first got it but did some research and found mine is way different than any M1C I found. 4 hex screws instead of 3. The mount is higher, slopes back and sits directly over the bolt instead of off to the lower left like the M1C. I would have posted pics but my camera shot craps. |

Is the mount hinged so the scope is over the cenetr of the bolt? If not, how do you load the rifle? I have a Garand that someone lese modied a while ago and it has a Pachmayr hinged scope mount. |
