I have a Tortort that was SBRed and I recently bought a second parts kit. The upper on the first kit installs easily on the receiver and is great, but it has a neutered barrel. I installed an intact surplus barrel on the second parts kit, but it is very difficult to close and push the pivot pin in fully. Is there an easy fix to this? Should I file a small amount off the back of the upper so it isn't so tight? |
|
I finally got around to building a kit on a Czechpoint lower. The lower won't accept the metal safety due to the right side hole not being large enough. Does anyone make a safety that's metal and works with the Czechpoint lower? I couldn't find anything in Google. The plastic one is just rinky dink and bugs me |

Originally Posted By vlarg: Is there an alternate takedown pin out there that allows for a quicker swapping of the upper? I want to be able to quickly swap between a 7.65/32 ACP upper and a .22lr upper. Not necessarily, but there’s two ways to do it. You either extend the slot in the takedown Pin using a mill or something similar and extend it out closer to the end. That way when you pull it out, it pulls out further so that the “end“ of the takedown Pin isn’t still in that slot in the lower receiver, so it can act more like a typical AR15 takedown pin. The easier way, and the way that I did it, is you remove the takedown pin from the gun and grind down the tip so it’s pretty much flush with the outside of the receiver when it’s fully inserted, instead of sticking out a little. You may have to test fitted a few times to get it right, but essentially if you grind off the end of it enough, then there won’t be enough to retain the upper to the lower when it’s pulled out and it will act like a regular AR15 takedown pin. The only downside of this method is that it won’t be sticking out on the other end so you can’t push the Pin out with your finger anymore. You’ll have to take a bullet tip or punch or screwdriver or something to start popping it out when you take down the gun. |

I recently picked up a Southern Tactical VZ61 from Atlantic Firearms in .32 acp built on a Tortort receiver. My initial plan had been to buy a parts kit and build myself, I’ve built plenty of other firearms that I thought this would be another fun project, but I just couldn’t get momentum. Now that I picked it up from my LGS I’m glad I finally bought one. It’s an awesome little gun. I still need to source a threaded barrel and some spare magazines to complete it but I’m in no hurry as I want to SBR & add the wire stock too. Could someone help out with the measurements for the Form 1? What’s the typical barrel length of the available threaded barrels and what’s the total length with the wire stock extended? Thanks Just came back to add another question: What are the thoughts on the VZ61 threaded barrel from Centerfire that utilize a 1/2x28 thread with a 1-16” twist? This Barrel ? If I figure it correctly, as a bonus using a US made barrel and the Tort receiver satisfies the 922r requirements. |

I would offer to polish its feed ramps before installing - far easier to get at when not in the receiver. I installed a few on spare parts kits receivers. I found that they feed better after polishing the feed ramps. On one it seemed like occasionally would jam from one side of the feeding - A Polish with Dremel and kraytex bit and good to go. |

In a thread over in the Beretta section of the handgun forums, someone posted that they couldn't find any magazines for the Model 80X in 32 ACP. In reply, someone posted a video of a gentleman using various Beretta Cheetah 380 ACP magazines in a Model 80X in 32 ACP and they all fed the 32 ACP cartridges. So.....VZ61USA.com has a 33 round drum for the 380 ACP version on the VZ61. I wonder if that magazine will fit the 32 ACP lower? I have used Beretta 84 and 81 mags nearly interchangeably. Using an 84 mag on the 81 (32acp) the mag followr doesn't hold slide open on last round but feeds it. I wonder if the mag could be used with a different follower or opening the lips a little for 380??? |

To the people still trying to decide if you want a VZ61 I can surely tell you that one of these guns is a must have for any firearm collection. Especially for the price point. My rough guess is you could probably build one of these for less than $500 or like me buy a really nicely built factory parts build for around $700. I had planned to build myself since I do have experience building AR15, AR10, AK47, FAL, M1 Carbine, etc. type firearms and these look as easy as any of those builds. Honestly, I just didn’t want to troubleshoot so I decided to go prebuilt and if there were issues let the manufacturer figure it out. Luckily, I don’t have to worry since I finally got to shoot mine today and it ran 100% without issues. (Except for the time I didn’t have the magazine locked in properly and when I pulled the trigger the chamber was empty! )Only got to shoot 50 rounds through it today because the surplus 7.65 ammo I brought was steel core and the range wouldn’t let me shoot it so had to buy a box of their ammo @ $28 a box. ![]() My gun is a SBR and has the overfolding wire stock which looks awesome but realistically isn’t very practical for shooting range work but I’m sure is preferred for covert operations so I’m keeping it for now. Now that I’m sure it functions I’m gonna swap the surplus barrel for a U.S. threaded barrel so I can use a suppressor next time shooting. Also, by the next time I get out to shoot this I’m gonna have a .22lr conversion upper (also suppressed) to swap in and try which I’m thinking is gonna be equally awesome. My only problem shooting this gun is its diminutive size and reciprocating charging handles I tend to hold my support hand a little high and hit the handles but it never caused a malfunction this outing, I just have to remember to hold it lower on the mag body. Also, the 50 rounds I shot today were PMC Bronze 71 grain ammo which I had read some people had issues with but in my gun it was 100% reliable so I’m going to order a couple thousand rounds to stock up on. |

I grip the mag and my thumb rests up next to the front sight I kind of wanted to keep it original but honestly it never occurred to me to do what you’re suggesting. Also, the factory charging nubs are so small they are kind of difficult to manipulate while keeping any type of shooting posture. I do think a single sided extended charge handle is in my future. One quick question I just remembered, what function does the large cross pin above the trigger serve? The one that keeps falling out every time I open the VZ61 for cleaning and lubing the gun. Is it really supposed to fall out so easily when the action is opened? I could totally see it falling out, me not noticing and closing the gun without it being installed. Would that be bad? |

I just picked up a threaded barrel for my kit, and realize there’s no shoulder on the barrel for the suppressor. What solutions is everyone else using for this, to not overthread a direct mount suppressor? Or are folks doing some sort of 1/2x28 to tri lug adapter that stays on somehow? And if you had the complete .32 kit already, what would you buy first—a threaded .22 upper, or a lower receiver? (If both were in stock). Also, Czechpoint or Tortort for receivers, if both have the milled in stock slot? |

The Tortort was how I was leaning for a while; including a stock slot will be a benefit for after I efile a form 1. I saw a Czechpoint the other day at an LGS, and their finish and markings both seemed strange. Plus, their tendency to just bolt on the stock slot seems unwise. The 3D print option is out; no access to one. |

The factory Czech receiver is supposed to be pretty much plug and play with no fitting. The one major downside for some seems to be it comes with a plastic safety selector that must be used. The receiver is made so the original selector can not be used. I believe there may have been some over rotation issues with the original selector that would allow guns to fire when they appeared to be on safe. The Tortort I believe is a more clone correct receiver. It has the proper selector markings and allows use of the original metal selector. I also believe they were the first to have the proper milled rear for the stock. They may need minor fitting. But I'm not sure if that's still a thing. Hopefully I didn't mess that up to bad. |
