I searched. The last thread I found was from last September. Since these are supposed to be shipping next month, I figured I'd post a new thread.

So what do you all think of The Gun Box?:

It's about the same price and principal as the Hornady RAPiD Safe:

Here's a video:

Low tech is better

technically it is plastic. and watch the vid on manually opening it and tell me you feel safe leaving anything in that box. plus if you hard mount it and need to manually open it you cannot. i was very excited about this product at first but then started seeing what i feel are drawbacks..

I'm interested in something to keep my young children from gaining access to my handgun while providing me with quick and easy access, not to prevent theft, protect from fire, or really much of anything else.

robpiat, which low tech options would you recommend and why?

NoLimit, why do you say it's basically plastic? Everything that I see indicates it's an aluminum alloy. I do understand how one can gain access manually. While I agree that it's a drawback, I don't feel it's a show stopper for my intended purpose.

Aside from the Hornady Rapid Safe and a few of the GunVault safes, are there any other products on the market that use RFID and/or fingerprints to open the safe?

The Sentry Biometric Quick Access Pistol Safe: http://www.amazon.com/Sentry-Biometric-Quick-Access-Pistol/dp/B00EXQW672/

Solid 12-guage box, fingerprint reader works just about every time. Key backup and keypad as well.

Very in-depth review of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=001syVM1pS8

IMHO, RFID is silly for a pistol box because it usually requires ac power and you need carry around a credential to open it. Fingerprint or code is the way to go.

I was posting on my phone. Fort Knox, fas1 , and several other companies make simplex boxes that have great reputations.

looks like they have switched gears from when i looked at them a few weeks ago. in one vid they were said they were going to use polymer because metal interfered with the RF signal. and they showed a vid on the manual access that had a phillips screw at the bottom front to open it.
