I'm curious about a few head stamps I came across sorting brass today. I figured I would make a thread and maybe we can all offer info about certain head stamps. Like who makes them and if there are any known issues with a particular head stamp. I know there's a list decoding head stamps out there but it doesn't offer first hand insight from someone who has used them.

Here's what I got. These are all 223 and 5.56 cases.

- FC 223 REM (I've read multiple times that Federal brass sucks)

- RP 223 REM

- MAL 5.56 12-84

- L  C  7  6

- PSD 13

- PMC 223 REM

- WCC 12

Any input on the quality of these cases would be great. Any other info, like if they're crimped, would be good too.

Feel free to list anything I didn't post and give your experience with it. This isn't 223 specific.

edit to fix the all caps, please don't do that. dryflash3

Here's the link to the page you may have been referring to.

Probably hasn't been updated in a while.

Should be interesting to see the responses.

- FC 223 REM (I've read multiple times that Federal brass sucks) Federal, should not be crimped. Many complain of softer brass/shorter life
- RP 223 REM Remington, no crimp. GTG
- MAL 5.56 12-84No clue
- L  C  7  6Lake City, 1976 production, crimped, GTG
- PSD 13PMC's Xtac line, crimped, GTG
- PMC 223 REMPMC, no crimp, GTG
- WCC 12Winchester 2012 production, crimped, GTG

Any input on the quality of these cases would be great. Any other info, like if they're crimped, would be good too.

- MAL 5.56 12-84

Malaysian 5.56, 1984

Big load of it came in back in the late 80's that remember seeing it, white box of 20 cartridge.. stuff had a nice 5.56 bag to it.  Any of it being found at a range as empty brass is coming out of somebody' old stash.

Good brass, nothing beyond normal prep required.

I've read alot of bad about FC 233 REM cases but for my limited experience, thede have produced aome of the best groups for accuracy when resized ans trimmed for 300 blkout.

Yup. I still have some left, maybe 250-500 rounds. It goes bang. Clocks 3058 FPS w/ an ES of 70 and a SD of 25 out of a 16" BM 1/9" M4.

- Tulammo 223 Rem  No experience

- GFL 223 Rem  Fiocchi, the V-Max and Soft Point ammo I have used wasn't crimped, but not sure about their FMJ stuff.  Some of the primer holes are off center but still loaded fine and brass has worked fine for multiple reloadings
