Thinking about a Lynman T-7 turret press. setting it up specifically for doing resizing and decaping. since I retumble and trim after this step anyways on my bottle neck cartridges. then I can just put a universal decap die in the toolhead for the 550 to make sure the flash hole is clear of media. I have a giraud trimmer, so do not plan on getting a trimmer for the dillon. This would let me set up the machine and leave my sizing dies in it at all times......these are what I would put in it: 308, 223, 6.5g, 7.62x25 tok, 8mm mauser for sure.......maybe even 50 beowulf, and if I got another 300 win mag, that die would also go into in............anyone else thought about doing something like this.....any reason why it would not work or be a good idea.

guess a RCBS 6 station would not be bad either.

I start thinking about things like this when reloading and looking around me.............

why not just get a dedicated sizing/decapping toolhead for your dillon?

I bought an RCBS single stage press at a gun show, primarily for use as a decapping station.  I have a Lyman universal decapper in it.  I use it on brass to punch the fired primer out so it does not interfere with accurately measuring case dimensions (headspace, OAL, etc).

Now that I have it, I also use it for other things, too, so my thinking has drifted in the direction of a turret press and then to the T-7.  I expect the T-7 will be the next piece of reloading gear I buy because I already have a Giraud trimmer.  :-)

In summary, I think you have a great idea there.  GO FOR IT!

7 x $18.95 = 132.65 Plus about $12 in Tax your about $145 for me to get 7 more toolheads........also, consider the time to change the shell plate each time. how much fast is it to change the shell holder on the Lynman. if it is just like the Rock Chucker, just a few seconds.

or I could go with the Lee 4 hole turret press and an extra turret and I am either the same or cheaper even with shipping then the 7 more toolheads. if it was just 1 or two calibers, yeah, tooldheads........

I have two RCBS de-capping dies, I de-cap before the first tumble on the single stage and the other one goes in my LnL AP instead of a sizing die since I do all sizing on the single stage also with my Redding Type 'S' FL bushing die.

1.de-cap
2. tumble
3. lube & size
4. tumble
6. Trim and other case prep
5. move to the LnL AP for plinking ammo or finish making match rounds on single stage using hand primer and Redding Comp. seating die.

1. de-cap to clear media,
2. prime
3. drop powder
4. powder check
5. seat with Hornady Micro seater die
6. crimp with FCD if plinking ammo

I got one, it's called a Rock Chucker.  Only thing I use it for anymore is sizing rifle brass

The T7 is a very nice press. Even if you fill up the turret, you can just buy extra turrets.

I have one......I use it for reforming 30-06 to 8mm mauser and have it setup for bullet pulling when I am reload.

Do you have a Dillon 550 or 650?  How many are you planning on loading in each caliber?  If you have a 650 with a casefeeder and are loading in volume, you would probably be very happy with a dedicated prep toolhead.  The time you mention for shell plate switch over takes less than two mins, but can be completely negated if you just load the brass after preping it anyways.
Why not just get some locking rings (the RCBS ones work well) for your sizing dies and just use your Rock Chucker for resizing?

Why not just use a Hornady or Lee single stage press with bushings?  Set each of your decap/resizing dies in their respective bushing.  Changing from one caliber to the next then takes on the order of 30 seconds (just pop in the appropriate die and shellholder)?

So I don't get how a turret would be better (unless you just want fancy holes in which to store your dies?).

And I'm guessing 3-4 bushings and a single stage are cheaper than a turret press?

this is why I started this thread.......to get other ideas........as I stated in my original thread, I have a Dillon 550 and a RCBS rock chuck which is for bullet pulling and case forming...........

Had not looked into the Lock n Load from Hornady (prefer that over Lee...personal preference of brand)......had heard of the LnL, but did not know anything about the setup. I like that option.....could then make something like a spice rack to the sizing dies and setup the press like my RCBS....actually, any press I get will be raised up....see this page for what I did on the single stage: Elevated Single Stage Presses but think I will follow Dustins lead and put them on plates. then all I have to do is unhook the plate and move the whole unit and put in place the one I am going to use......

thought I would bump this thread for something I just discovered. Hornady L-n-L conversion. you can use this conversion on most single stage units....and only costs $16....a lot cheaper then getting another press.

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=858110

as long as your press uses a bushing that is 1 1/4"-12 then you can use this conversion. I don't have to buy another press. just going to use this on my Rock Chucker.

It looks like a good idea to have single stage press that can accept the L-n-L bushings. Can someone provide a short list of single stage presses that accomodate the L-n-L 1 1/4" - 12 bushings?

Thank you

Most Rockchuckers will, and any of the .50 BMG presses with the 1 1/4"X12 dies. Some of the Lee presses will as well.

Lee's Classic Cast press will accept the larger dies. I use Lee's cheapest press as my dedicated decapping station. I have a hole underneath it to allow all the primers to drop through my bench top to a cardboard box underneath. I drew an outline of the press on the table top and used a router to make the primer chute.

Keeping the crud away from my good presses and dies makes me happy. SmartReloader sells a cheap chinese press for $18 or so, the only good use for it (IMO) would be a dedicated decapping station.
