Was the Thompson Tommy Gun considered an "assault weapon" in the '94 ban?
I am considering adding a Thompson to my collection. Anything special I need to know about them? Looks like there are two main models the A-1 and M1. What are the differences between the two? |
| I have the one with the forward grip. It's heavy and I don't like the sights. The military mags had to have the hole in back enlongated to fit them. That just took a few minutes with a file. The drums need a special piece (included) to remove the drum . It's a great gun to have over your fireplace but it's my least favorite gun to shoot. It did take all the ammo I fed it with the mags though. |

The main differences between the M1 and the 1927-A1 are:
The 1927 is the deluxe version with the finned barrel, Cutts compensator on the barrel, and a cocking handle on the top of the receiver. This model is intended to be as much like the original 1921 and 1928 models as possible. The M1 is intended to look like the WWII M1 and M1-A1 guns. The receiver is narrower on top, and the cocking handle is on the side of the receiver. The barrel is smooth and there is no compensator. |

Friend had one years ago. It has a certain coolness to it, but that's about it. Weighs a ton. Useful for........nothing really. A very heavy, very expensive 45 pistol. Not even that good of a wall hanger; the longer barrel just doesn't look right.
Most people that buy these things regret it. |

Their one pic of the 1928 pistol shows a vertical foregrip. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that a VFG on a pistol was decidedly un-kosher... |

Had a Khar. Hated it. Very badly made. No class.
I wanted a 1928. The classic Chicago Typewriter. But due to the law I can't have one. So I built one. Here are WW2 era parts kits. Unissued. Like new. Kept in a crate by a nice lady in Volgagrad. Complete. They even have a decent dummy reciever using the WW2 parts. http://www.omega-weapons-systems.com/Tommy/ The gold standard reciever is here: http://www.thompsonsmg.com/HOME_PAGE.HTM "Extras" http://www.fortunelot.com/ When the day comes that the laws are changed or no longer matter I'll have a Chopper of my own. Until then I have a cool prop. |
