Took a look at both Brownell's and Midway (who had a much larger selection, BTW) for Thread guards.

First thing, what is the thread and pitch on the muzzle of the Ruger GSR?

Secondly, and for those that have already done so, is there a thread cover that is preferable to the others?  Neater appearance and so forth?  I have to admit that I am a bit skeptical about knurling-only; I believe some sort of flats on which one could use a wrench would be much better.

TIA, raf

I think the knurling should be plenty. I have a threaded barrel for a P226 with a smooth thread protector. I can put that on hand tight and after a few shots it's locked up so tight I need pliers to get it to break loose (admittedly I dont do a very good job of degreasing it before I put the thread protector on it).

If you really think you need flats...

I cut the OEM flash suppressor into a thread protector. I have an Armalite FS for when I want that option.
This way you still have the flats.

raf- if you want to go this route, send me yours I can do it for postage.

Thanks to you both; Insight option linked above seems like preferred option.

See if you can get one from a remington 700 aac model. They have flats and should be fairly cheap, if you can find a take off
