I know that most of the 22 caliber supressors are 1/2 x 28tpi so that defines the diameter of the barrel and the amounts of threads per inch(I believe), what I am wondering is if the length of the threaded portion is also a standard? I see lots of vendors that do not list the length of the threads and some that do (and offer varying lengths). Is there a standard size that all supressors will work with(Most common appears to be 0.4"??)? Hoping someone out there is a machinist for threading barrels and can enlighten me :) Reason I asked is I just ordered a barrel and it appears to have the threads a bit too long causing a gap between the back of my supressor and the barrel. Emailed the supressor vendor (to find out recommended length) and barrel vendor seeing what they can do for me to hopefully shorten the threads up and find out the ideal length but was wondering if anyone can tell me right off the bat the proper thread length ideally for any supressor but in particular it must work for Advanced Armament Pilot. Thanks! |
The best length is 0.4 if the threads are too long you can damage the suppressor (crush the first baffle, baffle strikes from mis alignment, etc). Tell me what barrel is, and is this a Pilot? 1928a1 is making a batch of .2 thick spacers for people who has threads too long. |
Thanks for the reply it is for use with a AAC Pilot barrel is a shortened GM stainless barrel 10" for the ruger charger. Good news is the vendor is offering to adjust it to the proper length for me so I think I'll have this solved shortly :) Hoping AAC will reply with the ideal thread length tomorrow. But I think the 0.4" size will probably work fine as far as I can tell it isn't hitting the baffle but it seems that there is a little nub that sticks out to prevent the threaded barrel from hitting the baffle so I think that is what it is interfering with(assuming it is there as a safety measure). |
Very interesting that is the length the barrel vendor suggested before I bought the barrel and it appears too long not sure if there have been design changes. I'll update this after I talk to AAC. |
Ok AAC told me 0.438" and I figured out what my problem was I have had the can for about 3 years and I had never cleaned it out. It appears there was so much carbon build up and I hadn't threaded it on that far due to my other adapter being shorter that the nub after the threads was coated with carbon build up and other gunk. Threaded it onto some other 1/2x28tpi threaded items and it knocked the gunk off and fits perfectly now. Guess I learned my lesson there was pretty hard to tell since the place causing the interference was so gunked up I didn't think it was threaded at all.... (Note: that was past the initial section of threads you can see a little thing sticking up in between the threads and the baffle) Now to try it out |
