The 'desert' tiger stripes have always looked like a good pattern to me. Something that alternates green and tan/lt brown in either a tiger stripe or a larger pattern like the tan and brown of the 6-color desert would be great IMO. |
|
You might want to check, because they are two major types of tiger stripes; the more modern version and the original Vietnam Era Tiger Stripes. THe VN era TS differs in that is more "green dominant (has more green)" in terms of color than the modern TS, which is more "Black Dominant (has more black)". |
in Arizona desert too.... |
If you want avoid them to shrink too much, put them in cold water for a night and then let them dry flat on the deck |
Exactly. It works well in a LOT of areas/environments. |
You called?
Wash them inside out, button the shirt and pants just like you were wearing them in the washer. Wash in cold. Don't use detergent. I hang my pants upside down with the ankle ties hooked on a coat hanger. Laying them flat out, or just hanging the like you would to wear them will also work. TS |
I've had this idea too. Have the green from the (TSP) VN-style the darker brown on the Desert TS with a little tan around the edges of the stripes. Also, if enough people will email or call Brigade QM, U.S. Cavalry and other vendors including you local tactical gear or surplus store we could have a tigerstripe pattern version of the ACU-style(cut) uniform. +1..does not look like the original one though.. |
Are they (civvie gear companies) even making ACU-type unifoms in non-ACU pattern yet? Personally, I wear camo every day to work, I'll leave it off when I'm off duty... |
|
BDU cut, I haven't seen anything else in ACU cut, but have heard rumor of black and OD ACU styles. I wore camo (woody-cam) full time for 10 years, and still do part time now but I have never really had the desire to wear it for other than government work. Once you use it everyday it loses its cool factor. However I will wear some tigerstripe BDU pants anytime. Tiger stripe is a good pattern that can adapt to urban, desert, or jungle/woodlands shades and still be effective (not all patterns can do that). Now if they made a digital tigerstripe that would be cool. |

That's the thing. I talked with the president of TigerStripe Products. Atlanco/Tru-spec is planning on releasing an ACU-cut and ACU color TigerStripe ACU. I told him that a MARPAT woodland would be a better seller than ACU color. The Tru-Spec MARPAT woodland is too thick and too hot. I also told him that more people would buy the original Vietnam type camo if they would make it in an ACU-cut. He agreed, but Atlanco/Tru-Spec is going ahead with an ACU-cut/ACU-color somewhat tigerstripe pattern. If we bug the hell out of the gear companies, we may can change that. If we don't we'll be stuck with about what we have. TS ETA: BDU.com "regular tigerstripe" is an invention of the 80's here in the US. The "Asian tiger stripe" is closer to the original VN tigerstripe. TigerStripe Products' version is the closest you'll get that wasn't made in VN during the war up to 1975. |
That's a typo, it should be Asian Tiger Slipe. |
You kids and your new fangled tagging!! Why in my day we had to tag everything manually! I remember back in ought-five,,, |
The Asian Tiger Stripe is a variation of a late Vietnam War pattern. It was darker and the stripes aren't as large. Real Tiger Stripe and Tigerstripe Products tends to fade if you wash them in detergent, don't wash them inside out, etc,. The later period was darker to make up for this. The US "Asian" Tiger Stripe is made differently and doesn't fade like the other patterns. TS |
Both of those patterns were used in VN. TigerStripe Product version is similar to the John Wayne Dense. There example of JWD is TigerStripe Products clothing. I don't know why the hell they don't have prices there. TS |
If they would put the brown stripes from the desert TS in the place of the black stripes in the VN TS, that would be one killer pattern. TS |
They'll hold up. TigerStripe Products used to manufacture their own tigerstripe BDU's and the 100% cotton twill advisor fatigues. The advisor fatigues are closer to the cut of the VN TS, but hotter like Tru-Spec stuff. Tru-spec now makes TSP's stuff. The 100% cotton ripstop is much lighter and cooler than the advisor style. I have several sets of each. TS |
