While not specifically on topic, last Thursday, my son Peter, after 11 years in college, successfully defended his Low Temperature Physics PhD Dissertation, got it signed, and submitted it to the department.  That means that he's officially a PhD (first Doctor in the family).  As a multiple article published Low Temperature Experiential Physicist, he starts his National Research Council's (NRC's) two year post-doc grant in July.  We couldn't be more proud of him and his accomplishment.

GRATZ!

Now, does ammo fail to fire at cryogenic temperatures and if so, why?  Will a CrMo barrel fracture upon firing when really super-cold?  Will the bullet still obturate when it is super-cold?

Nice to hear good news about a young person who is doing something constructive!

Best of Luck to him on his new adventure!

Have him do a dissertation on 40SW vs 45ACP and get back to us, that would be a fun thread.
Congratulations though.  My son has a masters in structural engineering and its fun to hear him
apply physics to firearms.
