| So I've been loading some 50bmg using pulled ball and AP bullets. My question is what have you experienced with COL. If I adjust the seating die to give me a round at 5.450 the next rounds I load might come out anywhere from 5.430 to 5.475. In your opinion is this simply variation in the bullets themselves? FYI I'm using the Lee 50 BMG kit and loading 220 grains of H50BMG (settled on 220 as an all around plinking load as I didn't get better results when I worked from 220 up to 240). |

You've got to remember that when using pulled components, you are getting a mix of manufacturers/lots, etc. If measured at the ogive, you will prob. get a better reading. Variations like this are also a good reason to keep the powder charge a bit lower. (and when I'm dropping the amounts of powder used in this round, I can't feel a lot of difference in recoil between a max load and one 20 gr below max)
I load pulled AP, API, APIT, SpotterTracer, and ball on top of pull down IMR 5010. (I save the H50BMG for the 750 gr. A-Maxes Good luck. |
