Nice grind lines, do you use a jig or do that freehand? I like that black finish on the blade too, how did you do that? Looks like a real user knife that can take a beating, I like it.

Very nice.

Judging by the tools, are you involved with Rescue/ Fire Fighting?

Glad you like them.

Jigs - I use a very simple jig to saber (aka scandi) bevel the blade.

Rescue tools pictures - I am a full time firefighter and it was a slow day at the firestation, - lol

thanks again for looking and commenting,

Jeff

For some reason I really like the black and orange G10 handle on those

Glad you like it.  The orange/black  combination is very functional - discreet but just enough orange to pick up in low light conditions.  To date, I have made one Bush Monkey knife for myself (below) and I choose the black and orange G10 combination.

Good to hear it was a slow day.

Any considerations when carrying and using a knife for your type of work? Would the heat in a fire affect the materials used, does G10 hold up? Do you need a particular coating for the blade?

The G10 holds up well.  Everything is bolted together so there are no adhesive failure concerns.  Leather sheaths take heat better than kydex.  The blade is fine as long as it stays below 500 degrees or so.  If worn inside the bunker gear, things stay pretty cool.    Using the knife - It helps to have a knife that will "index" in your hand easily so that you can use it in zero visibility conditions.  A simple handle with flats is best for this.  A handle that indexes easily and quickly is an important design consideration for me.  You should not have to look at a knife to use it quickly and effectively and if someone unfamiliar with the knife  uses it, it should index quickly and easily.

thanks for asking,

Jeff

Neat jig, I think I might try something like that in one of my next knives.
