Hi, folks.

How many of you train with class III weapons?  I run my guns pretty hard, but I worried about damaging a receiver and not being able to replace it in an anti-gun climate.

Being too old and fat for tactical stuff I can't say I train for anything, but I shoot for the pleasure of it.

It all boils down to money.  Short of total vaporization, there no damage to a receiver that can't be repaired by a really skilled smith.  It won't be cheap, but a fragged receiver can be restored to like-new.

Life is too short for worries like that- go shoot.

Thanks for the replies so far.  Any of the grizzled C3 vets think it is a bad idea?

i think most of the grizzled C3 vets have been in the game long enough that, at the price they got their guns, it wouldn't hurt so bad if they busted it...

Most of the grizzled C3 vets gave up "training" long ago –– they let their grandkids do that stuff.

About all I do is occasional subgun matches, which generally involves little more than running from stage to stage (though I mostly shuffle from stage to stage). And that's with an Uzi, which is built like a tank and weighs about as much, which is why I don't bother to run.

As long as you're not hitting the dirt on top of an M16, it should be OK. OTOH, if "training" involves taking your '16 along when you jump out of airplanes, scuba-dive, buttstroke bad guys, etc., then you might want to get an RDIAS instead of an RR. It's harder to break an RDIAS.

Hey- that $600 I paid for my M16 hurt just fine at the time!!!!

Seriously- training is never a bad idea.  Don't let worries about gun damage stop you.  Remember that your guns are all based on military designs that emphasize ruggedness and reliability.  Use good ammo, do a little routine maintenance and you will still be training as much as you want to when you too are grizzled.
