I am wanting to set up a simple trust. Myself as the only trustee. I have talked to a couple of different lawyers and they want $500+ to do the paperwork.
From those that have set up a trust for themselves, is it honestly that damn hard? Is it worth paying an attorney the price of another supressor to have the paperwork drawn up? Thanks all |

It is not hard, just buy a will program like willmaker, costs about $30. Takes about 30 mins And be sure that you get the older one because I believe the newer one doesn't do trusts. Oh, and be sure to re-write the trust to give yourself the power to use trust assets, because as Willmaker trusts are written, the trustees do NOT have the power to use trust assets. Then, have a lawyer check it over to be sure it is legal and you're covered. Or, you could just pay the money and have the peace of mind that you have a proper trust done by a lawyer. It really isn't that much money when you consider the cost of the weapons you'll be placing in the trust, and the penalties for messing something up. Even if you don't go to prison, the legal fees may likely do you in. |

It's only money...and you get what you pay for. If the attorney is going to provide the trust and future consultations for this price it may not be that bad. Who knows how things could change and future consultations to keep you legal could be expensive. |

200 bucks I can swallow a hell of a lot easier than 500+ That is 2 1/2 transfers! I just wish I could find a lawyer that wasn't out to rip people off PM sent! This is the guy I used. Great guy and is an AR15.com member too http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=24&t=382995 |

I will get one, I am just trying to find one that does not cost a fortune. That is proving to be difficult. $200 is a fortune? No, but sadly that guy does not do trusts in WV. I would have jumped on that in a heartbeat if he could have done it. That sucks I can PM you the lawyer in SC that did mine but I am not sure if he does out of state ones either. |

I have been in this game for awhile now and enjoy NFA alot. My two cents and I realize it wont be popular is that if you cant afford the lawyer to do the trust then maybe NFA is not somewhere you should spend money. When you are spending 1000s on NFA it seems a small drop in the bucket to me.
I dont believe NFA laws and restrictions should exist but, they do and like anything else in life you get what you pay for. A few hundred dollars to ensure you dont have pains in the future seems worth it to me. If you are 100 percent certain that you have a good document without paying an expert to do it. Then maybe its worth it. YMMV |
