Hi,
Just wanted to get some user input on a trust question I have. I already currently own 2 SBR's and registered them with the finger prints / CLEO signature. I am planning on building another, but don't want to have to wait 6-8 months for the signature while having to ask for another CLEO signature and photos, so I was thinking about getting a trust and doing an e-file. Would it make sense to purchase a trust and transfer these firearms into the trust? If I do, would I have to send in my other 2 lowers to get engraved or is there a way they can be put into that trust so long as I have the original ATF approved paperwork Thanks!!! |
| Engraving is for the maker of the SBR, not the owner. You were the maker, and presumably had them engraved when you did so, so there's no need to re-engrave them when you transfer them to your trust. You would, though, have to pay the $200 transfer tax for each of them. |
| Honestly, I see no reason to transfer your 2 existing SBRs into the trust. Unless you're going to set it up for a multi-user application with family or close friends, keep the 2 SBRs you have as an individual. Make a trust (about $100) and then use it for any future NFA purchases. |
