I have a few questions on turkey guns. I have looking at a Mossberg turkey gun because of the shorter barrel. The guns come with a turkey choke installed, can you use any accu-choke in them?,are the sights different than normal shotguns. I would like to use it for home defense but also have the ability to change chokes and hunt with it. I will fondle one next time I'm at the gun store but wanted some other opinions.

Mossbergs new "tactical turkey" pumps use the new X factor ported choke tubes. They are offered in improved cylinder, modified, full and the turkey choke. The 500's use the accu-choke and the 835 use the accu-mag choke. Don't know if the accu-mag tubes fit in the X-factor threads. MIKE.

I guess I will call mossberg, nobody else seems to know. If they do I think it would work well for my needs.I think I will get the 20 gauge so my wife can shoot it. Anything special I need to know about mossberg. I have a 12 gauge 870 but want something shorter and a little lighter on recoil.Although the wife didn't mind the recoil of the winchester reduced recoil loads.

Are you buying a turkey gun or a home defense gun? If you want a turkey gun that can also be used as a defense gun then the Mossberg tac turkey is a good choice. If this is home defense only the 870 and 11-87 come in 20 gauge youth that might fit your wife better. MIKE.

I want the turkey gun because of the shorter barrel and choke system. Tactical shotguns I've looked at don't have a choke system. I would buy a tactical, but want the chokes so I can hunt with it as well. Trying to kill 2 birds with one stone. How comfortable are those collapsible stocks anyway? would they work for hunting? hmmm maybe I will just have to get both

The stock on the 835 Tactical turkey is made by ATI. Its basicaly the same as the stock on an AR. It has drop spacers on it so you can line your eye up on the sights and have a good cheek weld. The factory sights are decent, allowing one notch for windage and a screw to adjust elevation. Mine patterned the best with cheap estate 3.5" loads.

For turkey hunting I like the pistol grip much better. More and more turkey guns are going towards pistol grip because they are more comfortable in the positions you usualy sit and shoot from turkey hunting. Having the stock be adjustable is worthwhile also, if your right handed trying to shoot a turkey off towards the right is quite a challenge with a full length stock, the shorter stock lets you get it tighter and have a better angle on it.

I did replace the factory camo adjustable stock on my 835 Tactical turkey with a knox stock to help tame the 3.5" loads.

Mine got me a 25lb tom this spring at about 40 yards.
