I picked up two used M1As this weekend. The first is a preban standard M1A with walnut and synthetic stock. It also came with a ARMS scope mount. The second is a M1A Bush rifle. Now I am officially broke !

Thanks !!!  A couple questions................. The upper handguard is loose on the 22" barreled M1A. It is an H&R barrel. Is there something I can use to tighten it up ???...........I also have a synthetic stock for the Bush rifle that needs a rubber recoil pad and screws. Where can I get them ???

Some guys will put a dot of RTV silicon on the underside of the handguard in the vicinity of the handguard clip.  I'm thinking some of the more flexible hot glue might work just as well as long as you're not doing mag dumps.  I would put a thin smear of oil on the barrel metal before "fitting" the fix.  That way you don't glue your stuff together.

I would buy an M14 stock from CMP and a handguard availalble at most M14 parts outfitters and put the longer rifle in wood, too.  Don't know what you paid for those two rifles - none of my business - but I assume at a good price.  What else would you spend money on?  A woman?  A car?  Those are cool-looking rifles, man.  You followed your instincts and coughed up the cash to follow thru on same.  You exhibited rare and admirable behaviour.  Congratulations.

The preban M1A was $1500 for the rifle, two stocks (one walnut), ARMS scope mount, 9 twenty round USGI mags and cleaning kit. The Bush rifle was $1275 with one 20 round mag. Now to sell a couple M1 Carbines to help pay for them..........
