Just got the Daytona in, with the Carbon Fiber inserts. It is lighter than the one with the stainless inserts, for obvious reasons. On the CF model, the blade is not marked S30-V. I'll be checking with Dave at MSAR to see if he can help me nail down the blade steel on this one. Word on the street is that they have used different steels at different times, and also that sometimes they etch the blade and other times they don't. Also note the glass breakers are different:

NICE!!!  Seriously...Microtech's workmanship is outstanding!!!

One question:

Why is it that everyone who does reviews these days has a techno soundtrack running in the back ground.  It's very distracting.  It also seems to be a very new and annoying trend.

Anyhow, when I could ignore that music....you make me want a Microtech....and I don't like automatics.

Enjoy those blades!!!!

I don't know. I've used all kinds of music over the years, and I get complaints no matter what. Someone wants AC/DC, then people complain about the rock/metal Satan music, say that Hip-Hop is BS, Jazz is boring, Techno is for Tweakers, ethnic music is unAmerican, or that Country is for rednecks...You just can't please all the people all the time. The best I can do is to try and have a decent mix and give something different everytime that is NOT going to get me in trouble for Copyright infringement...and that part is difficult.

I know people have a lot of beef with Tony Marfione and Microtech, but from what I've seen they really take their time and put a lot of work into making an almost flawless production knife. There's a lot of attention to detail and the materials used are top notch.

Merry Christmas!

They are pricey but when you pick one up you can see the workmanship, one day when my ship comes in....Question. what do you know about the Piranha brand, the mini-Guard for egs?.

I got to finger a mini-Guard and it seemed very well built, S30V steel, aluminum handle, etc. Kind of strange that there is no visible pivot screw. The one I played with had a little bladeplay, which is strange for a side-opener. I don't think I would carry one because of the simple button actuator with no type of safety in place. Seems like it would be easy to have it open up while in your pocket...then again I always have a lot of crap in my pockets and I can't really dedicate a pocket as "knife only." Your needs and carry methods may vary.
