Cross posting from the thread about the guy stealing $1200 from me. If you ship something UPS signature required, UPS now gives the receiver the option to opt out of the signature requirement. This gives people the ability to say they never received the package and can file a credit card charge back against the seller. If you accept VISA/MC they both require signed proof of delivery for any CC charge where the card was not present to begin a dispute to a customers charge back. UPS just made it way easier for people to steal.

| I noticed this a little while ago. I had a shipment coming and I was not going to be home. It was signature required which I was able to log into my UPS account and remove. Step son works logistics at FedEx and listening to him talk about how messed up they are we are running out of reliable shipping companies. |

But yes, it completely makes the in person signature required worthless. Its a terrible idea they implemented. It's terrible in the way it enables thieves. Signature required can be a real pain for the rest of us though. I can't have personal stuff shipped to the receiving department at work. UPS likes to say "out for delivery" and then it suddenly to will be delivered tomorrow. I can't work from home every day waiting for a package. Maybe we can make things easier for everyone and deport thieves. |

I can't find this "opt out of signature" on my account. Maybe it's not on their mobile site? I'd love to opt out of the signature requirements. I know why it's there. But my location is more secure than others. I'd like them [all carriers] to allow me to bypass signature requirements by remotely opening a secured area like garage, etc. |

USC922 require a written signature: (2)It shall be unlawful for any common or contract carrier to deliver in interstate or foreign commerce any firearm without obtaining written acknowledgement of receipt from the recipient of the package or other container in which there is a firearm. Of course UPS answer if enforced would probably to stop shipping firearms or charging more for signature. |
